Mario performs ‘Thinkin’ About You’ and ‘Breakup’ on Good Day New York…

Tuesday, October 27th, 2009

I’d have said Mario gave us ladies a good enough reason to wake up very early this morning as he performed his chart topping singles ‘Thinkin’ About You’ and ‘Breakup’ on Good Day New York (Oct 27th). Mario was on his promo grind for his new album ‘D.N.A’, which has badly underperformed. Sadly, performances like this would have you switching off and rolling over in your bed to recover the extra bit of kip you’d have wasted by giving the below video the time of day:

Mario performs Thinkin’ About You and Breakup on Good Day New York...

Not good by any means.

The backing track was either too low or his mic was turned up too loud. Then he messed up at the beginning of Breakup by belting out at the wrong time. The vocals were not representative of an R&B singer crapping on his competition. We know Mario is the best singer of his generation but I get the feeling he couldn’t be assed. That’s probably down to knowing such a rusty performance would not magically give his poor album sales the miracle growth spurt needed.

And if you’re wondering why Richgirl singer Audra Simmons has been playing the lead chick in all his latest music videos that’s because the two of them are exclusively dating. Well, they’re both struggling artists but Mario has one up on her because he’s released four albums whilst she’s released — none.

Whilst they may not be the second coming of Jayonce, they make a very cute couple regardless.

Mario: ‘Thinkin’ About You’ [New Video Premiere & poor album sales]…

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Mario released his new album ‘D.N.A’ this week which is predicted to flop hard with first week sales in excess of 20-25k. To coincide with the release of his new album, he has premiered his second music video from the project. Watch the Chris Robinson-directed clip for ‘Thinkin’ About You’ below:

Yay! He grew his hair! At least he is no longer looking like Hellboy’s little brother which was just frightening. He was looking quite sharp in the video. Too bad about those album sales. ‘D.N.A’ may not be his best project but it definetely deserved to do better.

It sounds okay. It’s definetely not better than the criminally underrated ‘Go’. It sounds like a very commercial-R&B album. I really like ‘Stranded’, ‘I Choose You’ and ‘The Hardest Moment’. I think I like Trey’s album a lot better, and I’m making my judgement based on nearly every song that has leaked.

Mario & Trey Songz to headline ‘BET/Live Nation Club Tour’…

Tuesday, September 22nd, 2009

Live Nation and BET Networks have combined a partnership as a joint venture to produce a series of U.S. tours. The tours are set to visit Live Nation-owned House of Blues venues and other clubs/theaters across the country. The new partnership will see a launch this fall with the 106 & Park Tour. Confirmed acts for the tour include co-headliners Mario and Trey Songz. The gigs start on Sept 29th at the House of Blues in Los Angeles, and will visit major U.S. cities through November.

“BET is a brand that is highly respected by artists and music fans alike and they wield considerable marketing power in major markets across the U.S. Together we hope to expand the roster of national tours playing Live Nation’s national network of clubs and theaters” ~ House of Blues president of talent Michael Yerke

I wouldn’t even mind going to see Trey and Mario at the same tour. That would send a female pulses racing. By the end of the night, you’d be able to fry an egg on your forehead. Who’s going?

The BMI Urban Awards in NYC…

Friday, September 11th, 2009

It was a right R&B fest at last night’s BMI Urban Awards. The ceremony took place at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City (Sept 10th). R&B stars like Keri Hilson, Letoya Luckett, Adrienne Bailon, Melody Thornton, Mario, Bobby Valentino and Mashonda were all on hand to help BMI salute hip-hop and R&B’s leading songwriters, producers, and publishers. Peep the photos below and after the jump.

The BMI Urban Awards in NYC...

I don’t think I’ve seen so many D-list celebs at one event before. I keed I keed. But where were the big R&B players at? Usher? Beyonce? Mary? Alicia? Speaking of Alicia, Mashonda looked good. I just hope she’s not bitter anymore and she stops going around telling people that “Alicia stole my man”. No such thing is possible, and Alicia and Swizzy are happily parading themselves like nobodies business.

♫ MARIO: ‘THINKIN’ ABOUT YOU’ [NEW MUSIC // OFFICIAL 2ND SINGLE]…

Monday, August 31st, 2009

The official mastered version of Mario’s ‘Thinkin’ About You’ has surfaced from his forthcoming new album ‘D.N.A’ (to be released on Oct 13th). The track previously featured some verses from Ace Hood but now Mario flies solo. Thinkin’ About You is also the follow-up to his current lead single ‘Break Up’. Listen to The Runners-produced cut below:

On his new album, there will be guest production from the likes of Tricky Stewart, The Dream, Babyface, Stargate, Eric Hudson, Bangladesh and Jim Jonsin just to name the few. Mario certainly knows how to churn out a mainstream pop hit and I think this has the near potential to come close to what ‘Let Me Love You’ once was. The song begins with some electronic keyboard kicks before launching into a full scale contemporary R&B midtempo. It boasts a nice bassline and as usual, his pitch-perfect vocals accentuate the charming lyrics really well. Rating: 3.5/5

MARIO’S OFFICIAL ALBUM COVER ART FOR ‘D.N.A’…

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Mario’s fourth studio album ‘D.N.A’ is set to drop in stores on October 13th. The Diddy-assisted ‘Thinkin’ Bout U’ (produced by The Runners) will also serve as the album’s second single. Now you can peep the album’s official cover art below:

I like it! He looks so buff, and beddable. It even looks like his hair is growing back which is a much nicer look than the clean cut bald look. Not everyone can pull off that look, and Mario is one of them. I really enjoyed Trey Songz latest album and I’m really excited for this new project as well. The previews sound promising. I hope it’s as good as his last. Picture source.

MARIO PUSHES BACK HIS NEW ALBUM TO OCTOBER…

Sunday, August 16th, 2009

Mario has pushed back his new album ‘D.N.A’ to October 13th. The project was originally slated for a September 22nd release. His latest single ‘Break Up’ is a top 20 hit on on the Hot 100 and the song is also currently at #2 on the R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart.

MARIO PUSHES BACK HIS NEW ALBUM TO OCTOBER...

I want to hear his new album so badly. Between him and Usher, they are like my US Craig David (male R&B singers I anticipate no matter what). The delay could be down to Mario’s label wanting to push out another single just like the Letoya Luckett, Amerie and Mariah Carey situation. Although, in this scenario, Break Up is doing really well on the charts. This is a pattern that’s become pretty consistent in R&B lately.

MARIO PERFORMS ‘BREAK UP’ ON 106 & PARK…

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

Mario is pressing ahead with his promo for forthcoming new album ‘D.N.A’, which will drop in stores on Sept 29th. The singer performed his latest new single ‘Break Up’ on BET’s ‘106 & Park’ yesterday (August 10th). Peep his first televised performance of the song below:

I’m ewwing at Sean Garrett right now. I want to wash my eyes out with bleach. As for Mario, he is such a talented singer so I’m not understanding why he would lip sync a song which, in my opinion, is not all that vocally challenging. I expect that from Chris Brown. And it’s not like he was busting out into some hardcore dance routine. Never mind. I can forgive since I know he can actually sing.

♫ MARIO PREVIEWS NEW SONGS FROM HIS ‘D.N.A’ ALBUM…

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

Mario exclusively previewed three new songs from his forthcoming new album ‘D.N.A’. The tracks he previewed are titled ‘Thinking of You (Depression)’, ‘Thinking About You (All Night)’ and ‘Stranded’. The project has been pushed back by a week and will now drop on September 29th. Listen to the previews below:

The sound quality is not that great. It sounds like the song was being played in the studio and someone recorded the background via mobile. You can even hear Mario singing over the recorded track, and that it is suppose to have some additional bass. Maybe I’ll just wait until these leak in HQ or something to get a better judgement. But, from what I can hear, the songs are mature R&B, and whilst they are contemporary-sounding, he is still not straying too much from his signature style which is good. I thought I was going to hear lots of electronic synths and dance pop influences along with some autotune but it’s nothing like that at all which is to be appreciated.

MARIO RENAMES HIS NEW ALBUM…

Friday, July 31st, 2009

Mario’s new album will no longer be called ‘And Then There Was Me’. His official site confirms that the R&B crooner has now renamed his album to the simply short and scientific ‘D.N.A’. So having said all that, his new album D.N.A will drop in stores on September 22nd

♫ MARIO: ‘WHO DO YOU LOVE’ [NEW MUSIC]…

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

Another track from R&B vocalist Mario has surfaced on the net, and there is no indication that this next track will be on his 4th studio album, ‘And Then There Was Me’ on September 22nd. A snippet of the track surfaced earlier this year, but now you can hear it in full through the youtube link below.

The song is a little above average, but it also feels kind of stale during the beginning of the track. The song does pick up due to Maddscientist’s production. With that being said, they are starting to make me think that they are the new Stargate. I’ve started to notice that they are really recycling their beats, as it sounds very resemblant to Jojo’s ‘25 To Life’ production wise. Hopefully they can switch it up soon, because they are starting to get boring. Overall, the song is decent, but hopefully it is not representative of what Mario has been cooking up for the new album, as I am still very enthusiastic about it. Hopefully he can keep me that way. Rating: 3.5/5.
