MTV Europe Music Awards: The Red Carpet…

Friday, November 6th, 2009

Last night, Leona Lewis, Beyonce, Shakira and Joss Stone attended the MTV Europe Music Awards, and hit up the red carpet with their own sense of style. Out of the four diva’s, who do you think looked the hottest? Check out who wore what in the photos below:

Beyonce rocked a cute geometric shaped mermaid dress. Shakira donned a simple but short sequin dress. Leona wore a pair of sequined, high-waisted harem pants with a tight-fitting black tank top. Lastly, Joss wore a silk multi-blue coloured mini dress that had a daringly low V-neck. She completed the look with some lengthy knee-high-boots.

Leona dances?

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

I think I’m about to get stoned if I don’t post this video, so here it is. Leona Lewis showing the crowd last night at her London gig that she can actually ‘move’. Leona performed an uptempo song from her forthcoming album ‘Echo’ which is titled ‘Outta My Head’. Peep the performance below:

Leona dances?

Yikes! Is that Leona getting some groove in an uptempo performance? The X Factor alum must have paid for some good hypnosis.

We are so use to seeing Lew Lew glued to the spot during a tragically boring performance, that in these circumstances we can pretty much say she was “dancing her ass off”. That of course, is in contrast to what we’re use to seeing.

The moves were a little robotic in parts, and although she’s not bustin’ out into some Ciara choreography, this is a MAJOR step-up from our Leona. We’re proud.

Leona Lewis: New photos of promotional gig in London…

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Earlier today (Nov 2nd), X Factor alum Leona Lewis returned to her hometown to perform a professional gig at the Hackney Empire in London. The gig is just one of many promotional stints as she prepares for the forthcoming release of her second album, ‘Echo’, due out on Nov 16th.

Only Leona Lewis can make a bin bag-equivalent look really classy.

It’s good to see her wowing crowds with her stunning vocals especially after what happened to her a few weeks ago. As much as I love Lew Lew and her music to bits, I’m just not sure if I’d be able to sit through a full concert of hers. It would be just as entertaining as watching two snails slugging it out in a race.

She’ll also perform her new single ‘Happy’ this coming Sunday on the X Factor Results show. Oh gosh. Yippee.

♫ Leona Lewis: ‘Magic Touch’ [New Music // Snippet]…

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Ever wondered how a musical Leona Lewis and Danja pairing would sound like? Well, the wondering stops here. A snippet of their work has now finally surfaced on-line. ‘Magic Touch’ is produced by Danja and was recorded for Leona’s forthcoming album ‘Echo’ (out on Nov 16th). However, the song failed to make the final line-up. Listen to the 1:37 minute snippet below:

Wow.

This is really different for Leona. And it’s quite a stretch for Danja as well. The upbeat number features a heavy drum beat and a rousing electric guitar throughout. It gushes a 60s throwback vibe combined with elements of soul and jazz. The song itself could easily have been snatched right off Christina Aguilera’s ‘Back to Basics’.

Do we love it though?

Leona Lewis speaks about her recent encounter with racism…

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

A few months ago, X Factor Queen Leona Lewis was shopping with her Guyanese-born father, Joe, in London’s trendy. Whilst there, they were told to leave a shop because of their race. The episode affected Leona deeply, and she has chosen to speak about it for the very first time.

The act of racism is bad enough but are folk really THAT brazen about it still? SMH. You can read the singer’s traumatising encounter with racism after the jump.

♫ Leona Lewis Feat One Republic: ‘Lost Then Found’ [New Music]…

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

Leona Lewis simply cannot catch a break from all of these album leaks. Another song leaked yesterday from her forthcoming project ‘Echo’ (out on Nov 16th). The song is titled ‘Lost Then Found’ and it features Ryan Teddar and his group One Republic. Check out the audio to the song below:

♫ Leona Lewis Feat One Republic: Lost Then Found [New Music]...

‘Lost Then Found’ is a typical Teddar standard-fare pop ballad.

I don’t even need to describe the instrumentation as it’s pretty much a ‘Halo’-meets-‘Bleeding Love’ type template - heavily distorted drum beats, solemn organ chords, nonchalant pop balladry, and I can go on.

As expected, the 24-year-old songstress delivers a flawless vocal performance, and although the song is far from bad, unfortunately, we’ve heard it all before. Rating: 3/5

Leona Lewis performs ‘Happy’ on Switzerland TV show…

Monday, October 26th, 2009

Leona Lewis continued with her promotion for forthcoming new album ‘Echo’ by stopping in Switzerland to perform her new single ‘Happy’ on their show ‘Benissimo’ this past weekend (Oct 24th). This marks Leona’s very first performance since being punched in the face by a crazed ‘fan’ two weeks ago. Watch it below:

I still love the song but watching her perform it is such a snoozefest, you can use it as the perfect substitute for sleeping pills.

Ad slogan: ‘Don’t rely on drug substances to get your sleeping fix. Watch a Leona performance instead’.

Sweet girl. Talented vocalist. Lack of stage personality. At least she can sing, so that accounts for something. I hope ‘I Got You’ becomes a future single. That is all.

♫ Preview Leona Lewis’s ‘Echo’…

Wednesday, October 21st, 2009

Leona Lewis’s new album ‘Echo’ will hit stores on Nov 16th and is now up for preview on Amazon. On the site, you can now listen to 30-second snippets of all fourteen songs. The former X-Factor champ says of the album, “I titled my album Echo, since an echo describes a big, organic sound.” The disc contains a mix of ballads, dance tracks, and uptempo pop. A significant number of collaborators for Echo include Ryan Tedder (who produced lead single ‘Happy’ as well as her previous smash ‘Bleeding Love’), Justin Timberlake, James Fauntleroy, Max Martin and several others.

Click here to listen to the snippets. The only song I really don’t care for is ‘Outta My Head’, which I posted yesterday (the snippet). Having said that, this album sounds really nice. Leona knows what type of sound works for her in the artistic sense (she has no soul in her voice whatsoever to do hardcore R&B so when I read a previous article that she was working with Bangladesh, I laughed. I’m kind of sad that the uptempo Ne-yo joint didn’t make the cut though because I really liked it). After the jump, you can also check out the official album credits.

♫ Leona Lewis: ‘Outta My Head’ [Snippet // New Music]…

Tuesday, October 20th, 2009

An exclusive snippet of a new Leona Lewis track titled ‘Outta My Head’ surfaced today. The track is taken from her forthcoming new album ‘Echo’ which will hit UK stores on Nov 16th. Listen to the clip below:

♫ Leona Lewis: Outta My Head [Snippet // New Music]...
♫ Leona Lewis: Outta My Head [Snippet // New Music]...

The uptempo track falls into techno-pop territory and is very Xenomania-esque. I’ve enjoyed many of her leaks but unfortunately, this one isn’t my cup of tea. Leona actually worked with them on the project, so I would not even be surprised if they produced this. The lyrics are based on a female struggling to ditch her no-good fella: “I keep taking you back” she sighs “but I don’t know why I do - you keep breaking me down”. It’s definetely something different. Rating: 2/5

UPDATE: The track is produced by Max Martin.

♫ Leona Lewis: ‘I Got You’ [New Music]…

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

Poor Leona Lewis cannot catch a break. If she’s not getting Chris Browned in the face, then, it’s all of her new music leaking online. The latest new track to leak from her forthcoming album ‘Echo’ is the Max Martin-produced ‘I Got You’. Listen to the track below.

Youtube probably recieved notification from Sony not to allow any of her new music on their servers because I can’t see the track on there and I can’t be bothered to upload it myself. And if I did, it would probably end up getting taken down moments later anyway. So if you’re quick enough you can listen to it here. The pop-rock midtempo ballad mainly consists of guitars and strings in the chorus. It’s a lot catchier than I anticipated. More importantly is that it’s radio friendly and powerful. I would say it’s almost up there with ‘Bleeding Love’, and should have been the lead single. Max Martin really hooked her up. Rating: 4/5

Leona Lewis: ‘Happy’ [New Video Premiere]…

Saturday, October 17th, 2009

A short while ago, Leona Lewis’s music video for her new single ‘Happy’ premiered on The Box in the UK. The video was directed by Jake Nava who was also responsible for directing her ‘Run’ music video as well. Check out the video below:

Leona Lewis: Happy [New Video Premiere]...

The video was simple and effective and stayed true to the song and its lyrics. It was nothing dramatic but I enjoyed the story. She meets and connects with some guy and everything seems perfect and she looks “happy”. The video is edited to have us believe she is about to marry him, only except, it’s HIS wedding she’s attending, but not her own. She’s brought back to reality and aspires to move on and find happiness elsewhere. I’m sure most of us has had a similar moment. It was a good video, and she looked absolutely gorgeous. In regards to being punched in the face this week by a lunatic (a said X-Factor reject who was reportedly jealous of her success), I am now reading she is cancelling all of her promotional gigs, but as far as I know her sophomore album ‘Echo’ will still drop on Nov 16th and 17th.

Leona’s attacker charged and sectioned under the Mental Health Act…

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

Peter Kowalczyk, 29, has been charged with punching singer Leona Lewis in the head during a book signing in London yesterday afternoon (Oct 14th). Kowalczyk, of south London, was also sectioned under the Mental Health Act and will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 26th. Due to the attack, Leona cancelled several promotional stops this week but rehearsals for her first major UK show which begins next week will continue.

Leonas attacker charged and sectioned under the Mental Health Act...

As everyone speculated, it could not be possible for someone to be completely sane and attack an innocent young woman for no reason. The good news is, Leona, her fans and everyone close to her are near to getting their closure. Hopefully, Leona can move on from this twisted incident and put on a good show.
