R&B/Pop divas Leona Lewis, Jordin Sparks, Jennifer Hudson and Toni Braxton all put on their stylish frocks to attend the red carpet of last night’s 2009 VH1 Diva’s Live concert. The gig took place at the Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York City.

Leona, Jordin and Jen all took to the center stage to show off their golden pipes and diva prowess. Jordin Sparks is hoping to add more life into her poorly-recieved album ‘Battelefield’ with a new video. ‘S.O.S. (Let The Music Play)’ is the second single from Jordin’s latest new album. The official music video for it can be watched below:

Now who would want to cheat on cute lil Jordin? As for the video, it was just decent. Very current and age-appropriate and a huge step-up from the yawnfest that was ‘Battlefield’. Check it out.

There is a lot of online speculation floating around that Ciara has been dropped and replaced by labelmate Jordin Sparks to support Britney Spears on the North American leg of her ‘Circus’ tour. All I know so far is that yesterday, Britney’s people sent out a new press release stating that Jordin was joining the tour alongside Def Jam newcomer Kristinia Debarge. It was reported on June 24th by Britney’s official site that Ciara would also be supporting Britney on her 2nd US tour. Now Ciara’s name is no longer listed on Britney’s site as an opener anymore, and none of the newly written articles mention her as being a support act.

Jordin is a nice girl but she’s such a boring performer. Po Ciara can’t catch a break and Jive must be pissed at how much money they’ve spent on her project. Reportedly, she’s been back in the studio recording with Justin Timberlake so maybe she’s starting over, which would probably explain why she’s no longer on the tour. Also, further promotion of Fantasy Ride looks like it’s been halted. The project is as good as dead now, and it’s time to move on.

Pop’s biggest female stars all showed up at the 2009 Teen Choice Awards in California yesterday (Aug 9th). In clockwise order, Britney Spears, Fergie, Jordin Sparks and Joanna ‘JoJo’ Levesque are all pictured below during their arrivals:

Ms Spears also received the ‘Ultimate Choice’ award. This particular honour was a lifetime achievement award for her outstanding contributions to pop music. For the type of public breakdown she had over two years ago, she has bounced back defiantly and looked awesome. Not many child stars ever do successfully come back after hitting the brink of rock bottom. JoJo looked fab and despite battling record label issues which is the reason for her album delay, it’s nice to see her out and about from time to time. Jordin may not have had much luck with her current album sales but she was looking cute and chirpy. A new smaller physique and hair colour certainly has done Jordin some good on that front. As for Fergie, something looks off but I can’t quite put my finger on it. Hmmm, she’s not really that much of a stunner but I’m starting to think she looked a lot better as a blonde. Overall, the ladies were looking good.

Maxwell’s new album Black Summer’s Night is doing wonderfully. The disc pushed another 71,500 units this week and so, he sits comfortably at No. 3.

Maxwell who released his new album after an 8 year hiatus has almost pushed Gold in its three weeks of release. His total sales (according to Nielsen Soundscan), currently stands at 493,500 units sold so far.

Not everyone is hitting the treasure chest chartwise. Not at least Jordin Sparks anyway. Her new album ‘Battlefield’ has sold a lackluster 47,700 copies putting her in the no 7 position.

I feel really bad for Jordin. I didn’t like her new album but she is a really talented singer and ‘Battlefield’ is such a good song. She might even get dropped from Jive after this especially if her sales fail to pick up. Maybe a really good ’stand out’ second single could help her recover from this.

All is not going well for Jive Records and their artists. Whilst Chris Brown is still struggling to build bridges, Ciara’s latest album ‘Fantasy Ride’ has completely fallen out of the Billboard 200 after 10 weeks. Even Keri Hilson is still in the charts, and she released her album first.

Justin Timberlake may have given her a top 10 hit but he could not save the project from tanking the way it did. I know Jive must be re-evaluating the money they spent (and wasted) on the project - four music video’s, one for a flopped buzz single that had top-of-the range budgeting and comic book album art. Their mistake was trying to turn her into the black Britney Spears and that formula just didn’t work.

It’s not looking good for Jordin Sparks and her new album ‘Battlefield’. Hits Daily Double reported the following yesterday: “Idol winner Jordin Sparks returns with her sophomore album, which should do between 45-50k, good enough for a Top 10 debut”. 40-50K?!?!?!?! That’s really bad…

I am cracking up at the comments on the Idol forums: “This has to be a prank”. LOL! My estimate was more on the lines of 150k. I am deeply shocked at these numbers. Latest single ‘Battlefield’ was not a huge hit, but still, I expected better.

American Idol winner Jordin Sparks is now returning after her first album, self-titled went platinum in the states and having three successful singles (Tattoo, No Air featuring Chris Brown and One Step at a Time) worldwide. She’s now back with her new album entitled ‘Battlefield‘, which features production from Benny Blanco, Scott Cutler, Dr. Luke, Toby Gad, Claude Kelly, Andrea Martin, Harvey Mason Jr, Carlos McKinney, Sam Mizell, T-Pain, Anne Preven, Lucas Secon, Frankie Storm, Ryan Tedder and Dapo Torimiro. This album is kind’ve a continuation of her first with the basic Pop, Rock & R&B incorporated with a more mature sound from Jordin, including stronger vocals and much more emotional songwriting and lyrics. You can tell the growth from her first album to this one. Here’s how the album faired:

Walking On Snow” - 4.5/5 - It’s a Lucas Secon written track, the song is incredibly powerful with it’s guitar/synth mixed beat and dreamy vocals. Pop radio will eat this up if it’s released for the third single. The meaning of the song is that she’s walking away from her, now ex and that walking in the snow will show she has no pain or emotion left for him as her footprints are covered by more snow. Excellent song here.

Battlefield” - 4.5/5 - The album’s lead single and title track, is another strong Ryan Tedder produced track. It’s truly a gem to the album with it’s hypnotic synth behind the clashing drums and random shouts as Jordin belts (”why does love always feel like a battlefield, a battlefield, a battlefield?!“) My favorite part is when she declares, (”Go and get your armor!“) as she the song has a minor breakdown showing off her impressive vocals. One of the best songs to come out this year.

Don’t Let It Go to Your Head” - 4/5 - A cover track from FeFe Dobson, it’s a mix of Pop & Rock. The track is magical and she does the song much justice that it’s finally released. Her strong voice puts this song into a new place and finds this track another good part of the album. The beat also very much compliments her as she sings along.

A new song from Jordin Sparks new album ‘Battlefield’ has leaked titled ‘S.O.S (Let The Music Play)’. Supposedly, this is the song that is set to be her follow-up single to the Ryan Tedder-produced ‘Battlefield’. The song samples Shannon’s ’80s hit of the same name. Listen to the audio below:

Thoughts?

I kind of like the synthesised retro-style indie pop. She also sounds great on the song which is no surprise because we all know she’s quite a belter. I’m not sure how it will do on rhythmic radio though. Some songs scream radio hit, but this song has a neutral balance. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how it all pans out. I’m not a Jordin fan, and her style of music is not something I go crazy for, but I enjoy some of her songs. I’m not sure if I’ll be posting any more of her music on here but if you want me to then I will continue to do so. However, I would love to see her succeed because she’s such a genuinely sweet person.

American Idol’s Jordin Sparks encounters another leak from her forthcoming sophomore album, ‘Battlefield’. The album is slated to be released on July 20th via Jive Records. The latest new leak is titled, ‘Walking On Snow’. Listen to it below:

This is straight alternative-pop saviness. I think it would make a great crossover hit but don’t expect it to get any plays on urban radio. It’s really poppy in contrast to everything else and has no urban elements to it whatsoever. It sounds like it could be a theme tune on one of those teen shows like The OC, Veronica Mars or Sweet Valley High. I think it sounds okay. I’m not in love with it but pop music is her lane so this direction is definetely something she should continue to pursue.

Jordin Sparks and her boyfriend Steph Jones were seen happpily celebrating at his 25th birthday party in L.A. Jordin sung to him her rendition of Happy Birthday, and Steph was even rocking a red Thriller jacket to tribute his late idol Michael Jackson. The party was also attended by fellow American Idol alum Blake Lewis who came second to Jordin in 2006, as well as her good blogger friend B.Scott. Check out some flicks below:

I guess it’s pretty safe to say her crush over Chris Brown is well and truly over because right about now, this chick looks totally smitten. The 19-year-old will release her new album ‘Battlefield’ on July 21st.

She looks cute. Any of these would have made better facial shots for the album cover, which I’m not really liking at the moment but oh well. Hope the album is good. The Ryan Tedder-produced ‘Battlefield’ has stalled at #31 on the Hot 100. It may not have been Jordin’s ‘Bleeding Love’ but there’s still hope yet for the talented American Idol.
