JLS: Official commercial for debut album…

Friday, November 6th, 2009

JLS are releasing their debut album this coming Monday on UK shores (Nov 9th). Here is the official commercial for it which first aired during last night’s MTV Europe Music Awards. Watch it below:

JLS: Official commercial for debut album...

From X Factor runner-ups to chart topping boy band. And now they’re releasing their first album. The boyband are poised to retake the UK’s coveted No 1 this weekend with their latest single ‘Everybody In Love’. Midweek charts show that the boyband have so far sold an impressive 60K copies of the track. Meanwhile, X Factor judge Cheryl Cole, has held No 1 for the past two weeks after releasing ‘Fight for this Love’ and has sold this week a steady 26K.

Amazingly enough, for the past three weeks, it’s been X Factor territory dominating the charts (Alexandra Burke, Cheryl Cole and now JLS). X Factor alum Leona Lewis is also performing on the show this week so I take it that she’s the next X Factor associate to take the no 1 spot the week after.

This goes to show that the X Factor is a very powerful show because audience are buying it all up, with singles and albums from the performances topping the charts. That said, JLS got to no 1 previously with ‘Beat Again’ WITHOUT the aid of the show so that alone emphasises how they have the power to still see continued success outside of the show.

JLS perform ‘Everybody In Love’ on The X Factor…

Sunday, November 1st, 2009

This is where it all began. Boyband JLS returned ‘home’ earlier tonight after coming second in last year’s X Factor. They performed their latest new single ‘Everybody In Love’ which looks like another dead cert for the no 1 spot. Check out the performance below:

JLS perform Everybody In Love on The X Factor...

The lads delivered a very standard performance with a troop of dancers, sparkly pyrotechnics, smooth choreography and the works. Their triumphant performance was basically the middle finger at Simon Cowell for passing up the opportunity of signing them. Of course the shrewd businessman had to eat crowpie afterwards.

A lot of people consider JLS to be nothing short of corny. But the truth is, they’ve established themselves as a chart topping boyband who have proven to the naysayers that they can in deed deliver the hits. Even if they draw up sniggers at the mere mention of their name, they can sing and they do whatever they can to entertain.

I don’t care what anyone says but the quartet have rightfully earned their place in the industry by working their butts off. Their success certainly was not dished to them on a plate. They’ve had to work much harder and put in extra effort since they didn’t win the show and had more to prove.

Good job.

The songs don’t sound that bad but I’m not jumping up and down in excitement at what I’m hearing. Maybe I would have done if this was still the mid-late 90s. This was at a time where I would turn my bedroom into boyband poster territory and couldn’t get enough of The Backstreet Boys and N-Sync. I’d have put my beloved Imajin up there as well (who, like N-Sync and The Backstreet Boys were also on Jive Records) but they were hardcore R&B and their songs were at least hot. So, I’ll put O-Town in their place. Basically, what I’m trying to say is that the music is straight up boyband 90’s-style pop fodder (lets say, if O-Town and BSB had a musical baby, this would be the outcome). I’ll definetely listen to it because I’ve been rooting for them from day one, but I’d have personally preferred for them to go a more R&B direction. They’d have been able to carry it off but I guess this is down to deciding what would sell and what would appeal to radio and the masses.

♫ JLS: ‘One Shot’ [New Music]…

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

X Factor runners-up JLS are preparing to release their debut album on Nov 9th. A brand new song from the project leaked this week. The track is called ‘One Shot’. Listen below:

The production uses a heavy dose of trance-like keyboard synths, including synthesised drum snares fused with some percussion kicks. This is quite good. I’m really feeling it, and as cheesy as ‘Beat Again’ was, their project really sounds like it is shaping up to be a decent offering. Rating: 3/5

The 2009 Mobo Awards [Arrivals]…

Thursday, October 1st, 2009

The UK’s annual Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards took place last night (Sept 30th) with X Factor boy band JLS (below) and Beyonce all scooping double award wins. The show was hosted by Radio 1’s Reggie Yates and Keri Hilson in Scotland. Performances on the night included Keri who performed her hit single ‘Knock You Down’ with UK artist Taio Cruz as well as Kelly Rowland and David Guetta who performed their UK #1 ‘When Love Takes Over’. I’m reading there was some technicalities (no I didn’t watch it but recorded it on my Sky+ box so I may watch later when I get back home). Anyway, Latoya Jackson introduced a moving Michael Jackson tribute, celebrating the King of Pop’s legacy to the music industry along with a very touching performance from brother Jermaine, Britain’s Got Talent winners, Diversity and runner up, Shaheen Jafargholi. Peep some pictures below of JLS, Kelly, Keri and X Factor winner Alexandra Burke making their arrival:

Performances will be posted once available. Keri won ‘Best R&B’, whilst Beyonce won ‘Best International’ and ‘Best Video’ for ‘Single Ladies’. JLS scooped ‘Best Newcomer’ and ‘Best Song’ for their #1 hit single ‘Beat Again’. Now as for JLS, their choice of outfit will only further fuel up those gay rumours some more. I love Marvin because he’s hot but if my man ever wore a shirt with some ruffles I’d be like huh? I have a similar blouse sadly. I don’t even need to get started on the others. Two of them actually addressed the rumours last week.

Marvin Humes: “We don’t care. We’ve got loads of gay friends anyway. All of mine fancy JB”.

Aston Merrygold: “We always get the same thing from straight guys,’ he tells Gay Times. “Just because we like to take care of ourselves and get a lot of female attention, their first response is ‘you’re gay’.”

So, there you have it.

JLS: ‘Everybody In Love’ [New Video Premiere]…

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

X-Factor runner-ups JLS premiere their second video for latest new single ‘Everybody In Love’, which was produced by US producer J.R. Rotem. Check out the brand new video below:

JLS: Everybody In Love [New Video Premiere]...

This is a major improvement from the ‘Beat Again’ video. The last video was so wrong they could have been dancing in a cornfield. With this video, not so much emphasis is placed on the choreography but the love interests as well. After several listens, I am actually liking this a lot better than ‘Beat Again’. I think it will do really well since they’ve managed to build up a hardcore fanbase. On top of that, the little school girls will suck it up. The song is released on Nov 2nd and their debut album will be released a week later on Nov 9th.

JLS unveil their official album cover…

Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Some folk just don’t understand my fascination with JLS. Whenever I talk about how much potential they have in previous blog entries (and on the outside social sphere), there just so happens to be a lot of sneering going on. The sudden mention of their name is met with contempt, mockery, scorn and ridicule. And even my own mother has jumped in on being negative. A lot of the ridicule is down to JLS being taunted for supposedly having gay mannerisms, gay dance moves, gay music and overall, just looking very gay. Sadly, this album cover will do them no favours:

JLS unveil their official album cover...

It’s like, they’re the new kids on the block that nobody wants to hang with. They’re suppose to be the walking embarrassment of the town. As a result, I’m supposed to be embarrassed for liking them? Even if they were gay, why should they be ridiculed? Does it matter? Shouldn’t it be about the music?

♫ JLS: ‘Everybody in Love’ [New Single // New Music]…

Monday, September 14th, 2009

X Factor runners-up JLS premiered their brand new single for ‘Everybody in Love’ on the Chris Moyles show and Capital FM earlier this morning. The video will officially premiere on Sept 21st. Listen to the midtempo cut below:

♫ JLS: Everybody in Love [New Single // New Music]...
♫ JLS: Everybody in Love [New Single // New Music]...

When I heard the song at first I was a bit disappointed. It is very typical boyband style. For example, if 90’s Backstreet Boys had a baby with the now defunct O-Town, this would be the outcome of their lovemaking. From what I’ve heard so far, those groups had the better music. This song does have a nice chorus to it but it’s really forgetable and not as radio friendly as ‘Beat Again’. Vocally they can sing and their harmonising is great but they need to come harder with the music. Rating 3/5

JLS CONFIRM SECOND SINGLE…

Saturday, August 15th, 2009

The X Factor’s biggest boyband JLS have announced the details of their second single ‘Everybody In Love’. The group were in LA last week to shoot the video for the song as well as a photoshoot for the album’s artwork. The video has now been wrapped up and is expected to premiere next month. The track will see a release in October. They have also been putting the finishing touches to their debut album as well, which will be released shortly after.

JLS CONFIRM SECOND SINGLE...

I heard about the song from last week but was waiting for more information. Aston has already confirmed that they’ll be performing on the X Factor this Fall, so it’s very likely that the song will have it’s first television performance there.

As for what the song sounds like, various sources have confirmed it’s not as upbeat as their no 1 hit ‘Beat Again’. Instead, it’s a midtempo song, which comes with a dance routine (as confirmed by group member JB).

The group have also been preparing themselves for their 2010 UK tour. Their London and Manchester shows sold out “in minutes” according to Oritse. Their Glasgow show have also just sold out. I have yet to hear anything amazing from them musically which would explain my scepticism about buying tickets for the tour.

I may be in love with Marvin but not enough to buy tickets when I need to hear more of what’s on the table. It’s going to take more than a fine man and some sexy abs to attend a show. I’m about the music as well. But being the only black boyband in the UK right now to see that type of success, I am happy they are making some big moves.

The X Factor will be back on UK screens on Aug 22nd.

JLS TOP UK SINGLES CHART…

Monday, July 20th, 2009

JLS have shot straight to #1 on the UK’s Official Singles Chart with their debut single ‘Beat Again’. The popular boyband who shot to fame last year as runners up on The X Factor sold over 100,000 copies giving it the biggest-selling first week for a debut single so far this year ahead of Lady GaGa’s ‘Just Dance’ and Pixie Lott’s ‘Mama Do’

JLS TOP UK SINGLES CHART...

Here’s an interesting article about their success. As a JLS supporter who have been into them since seeing their very first audition, I have to say I am very happy for them. They’ve worked really hard for their success and in doing so, have successfully managed to prove their naysayers wrong. With a debut album set to drop in October and a bevy of female fans ready at their beck and call, JLS simply cannot go wrong. Sweet bliss.

JLS PERFORM ‘BEAT AGAIN’ ON LOOSE WOMEN & MARVIN BLOGS…

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Those JLS boys continued with their TV promotion for their latest new single ‘Beat Again’. They performed the same lip synced rendition as the one on GMTV last week. Although the performance was pretty much the same as the rest, I’ll never get tired of looking at them, especially my Marv.

JLS PERFORM BEAT AGAIN ON LOOSE WOMEN & MARVIN BLOGS...

Wristbands for their signings sold out at 6:30am this morning. The single is doing extremely well. It even grabbed the no1 spot on itunes. I so look forward to writing my next post on Sunday. Their song has a fantastic chance at grabbing the top spot on the official singles charts (hopefully). Marvin blogged about it today, and he’s ecstatic. Read his very emotional blog entry after the jump.
