JLS performed their latest single ‘Beat Again’ on London breakfast show GMTV early this morning (July 10th). The track gets released officially on Monday (July 13th). And Radio 1 has been playing their song quite a lot so I can definetely see them getting a top 5 debut. Check out the drop dead gorgeous Marvin showing off his tasty abs at 2:28. He’s the worse dancer but I be damned if someone were to tell me he’s not hot:

I’m not that crazy about the song. It’s listenable but not brilliant. After X Factor, I was expecting them to do music that was more of an R&B nature. As they deemed themselves a male harmony group, this type of song is the last thing I’d imagine them doing. Instead they lip sync for their first major television performance and concentrate only on the strenous choreography. It’s not like the song is cool urban-pop. It’s cliche/generic pop music that would have fit right in with the 90’s music scene when Five, East 17 and A5 were dominating. I’m not saying they should have transformed themselves into the black Westlife but they could have at least let Pharrell Williams lace them up with the first single or something - a sound that’s not cheesy but hot and current. I think Pharrell could have done that like he did with Justin Timberlake’s ‘Justified’ album. And since they are massive Michael Jackson fans and half of Justified were songs rejected by the King of Pop himself, I just thought it would be more fitting for them. Anyway, Oritse is such a superb singer by the way. I can’t stress that enough. I would like to hear his vocals on songs that are more fitting when they release their new album in October.

Weren’t they runner up to alexandra burke? I hope they do good. And I can’t wait to see if alexandra did a duet wit Beyonce the next Mj knowles

Jenni shut the hell up already! I don’t understand how beyonce was even brought up. Its like u stans go out of your way to mention her. She is not the next MJ! GET OVER IT

Yeah, they came 2nd. At the time I wanted them to win but I’m glad they didn’t because they are not tied down by a sucky contract. They said they get MAJOR creative control and wrote/cowrote all their songs on their new album. If they won, they may not have been able to do that. Matter of fact, which reality contestants or first time artist get to write the majority of their DEBUT album? Not many.

Blake Lewis cowrote most of his album.. he came second to Jordin Sparks on AI
Alex Parks (Fame Academy)
Lady Gaga, Mariah (first time artist)
I must say, Marvin isn’t the worst dancer at all. I think Oreo Oritse is. He is by far the best singer out of the bunch but his dancing is cringeworthy. He dances a bit like a fish which has been fed too much gummy bears.
Hmm, maybe I’m not in a good position to talk. I can’t dance at all haha

toya
sometimes i doubt your music knowlegde skills .When you posted Kristinia Debarge’s Video for goodbye ,I sent you a link for melinia fiona’s song but you are talking about her now.So i guess you are going to wait for v v brown to blow up before you mention her here on your blog. Its your blog i understand but stop claiming to be an authority in r nb when an ordinary music lover can spot talent way before you even mention it .

Oritisie is DEFINATLEY the worst dancer! I agree with everything Uzo said, his dancings embarrising.. Really good band though, I think they will be really Succesful!

Uh…they wrote or cowrote this song? That is unfortunate because it is terrible. Very NSync-ish circa 1998. Maybe they need less creative control.
And to be honest, if you can’t sing and dance at the same time, maybe you should stick to ballads and mid-tempos or just a few one-two-steps. I’d much rather hear you sing live than watch you dance around the stage and lipsync. I’m just sayin’.
I don’t doubt their singing ability or anything. I’m just curious as to how the entire package will develop for them to become successful. They have the potential, but they just don’t have that “IT” right now.

toya - everyone lipsynchs on gmtv, they don’t have the acoustics on the set to perform live.
stacey m - you completely explained it yourself, the ‘ordinary’ music lover. toya isn’t an ordinary music lover, she’s a blogger that receives thousands of hits per day to READ HER OPINION. go and open your own blog, get the amount of visitors she gets AND THEN you can talk trash. until then, leave toya alone because regardless of when she made the melanie fiona post, because i can guarantee you 80% of the toyas world visitors wouldn’t even know who she was before she posted it here.

Wont watch the performance. But I can imagine what it’s like. But I agree with what u said, but Pharrell & JLS would never happen. But they’ll probs stick to this pop stuff if it’s giving them a hit. The song is catchy though.

Where is Alexandra Burke?! She better not let these dancing queens steal her shine!
July 10th, 2009 at 8:31 pm
mel-
I was not talking to you sweety so keep it moving
July 10th, 2009 at 9:30 pm
Yeh a lot of ppl lipsynch on GMTV, but some do sing live, so i dont think its cos they dont have the acoustics.
Its kinda weird cos leona, alexandra burke and now jls (who all won or were runners up in a singing contest)all lip-synched, but others have sung live…hell even rihanna sang live on gmtv
July 10th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
I don’t get the Pharrell thing T - theirs so many hot British producers that could do just as good (if not better) a job with them. I just watched the performance - the dance moves were like taking a deep sniff of extra mature cheese, and the song is kind of stale bread sounding - perfect recipe for a FLOP!!!
July 10th, 2009 at 10:06 pm
It wont flop. All the kiddies are loving it.
July 10th, 2009 at 10:21 pm
Yeh but do all the kiddies have money 2 go out n buy it?
July 10th, 2009 at 11:55 pm
@ MILEKA, I mentioned Pharrell because he produced some songs on Justified. It was widely stated that the songs he produced were very MJish and it turns out the songs were offered to him and he rejected them. JLS are massive fans of MJ, and I’m sure anything that Pharrell offered them would have been much better than this. Pharrell has produced some hot beats back in the day and he’s starting to get popular again.
@ MEL, thanx but I’m not stressing about it. I went back and forth with some people for THINKING they know the extent of my musical knowledge. Last time I checked Melanie Fiona has NOT blown up, and her latest song isn’t doing well in the US. A lot of people still don’t know who she is.
Also you say: everyone lipsynchs on gmtv
Not true. Craig David has never lip synced any of his GMTV performances. Go and check them out. As a matter of fact I’ll post one:
100% LIVE vocals, and this very performance took place 8 months ago when he was promoting his Greatest Hits album.
July 11th, 2009 at 12:02 am
LOL @ M.
July 11th, 2009 at 8:26 am
Plus, I’m sure that Melanie Fiona GMTV performance a couple of posts down was live vocals as well, because she had the live band and her vocals sound very different from the actual recording.

Ortise a superb singer?
Toya i know you love this group but lets be objective with the posts lol
Superb would be Stevie, good would be Mario, decent would be Chris Brown. Ortise can hold a note and has a pleasant sounding voice but technically or artistically there’s not a single vocal performance he’s put out there to warrant him being referred to as a “superb singer”.

I think they have to be the worst lyrics of a song EVVA . if i died would you go to my funeral…. Pathetic
