Christina Milian poses topless with her fiance The Dream on Vibe magazine’s last ever cover which will never see a newsstand. The pose and concept is reminiscent to Christina’s idol Janet Jackson and her 1993 Rolling Stone cover. Though it would have made a lot more sense if they dedicated the last issue to Janet’s brother Michael. Rap Radar got the official final cover, so check it out below:
It’s a sexy photoshoot but not entirely the type of cover you would use to mark the end of such a critically-acclaimed urban publication. King and Blender are also magazines that became defunct over the last couple of months as well.
Vibe’s closure leaves just one large-circulation magazine, The Source, which focuses on hip-hop and R&B. The Source has had its own troubles, going through a bankruptcy and emerging under new ownership last year. Vibe on the other hand, enjoyed significant success in the late ’90s and early part of this decade as hip hop and R&B became the nation’s predominant forms of pop music. But in recent years the title has fallen on hard times under its new owner, the Wicks Group, which bought it in 2006. In February, it reduced its circulation and publishing frequency, cut salaries and moved employees to a four-day workweek to save money.
Am I sad to see the back of Vibe? Not really. I have been disgusted with them for the way they reacted towards Robin Thicke when he asked them about why he was never featured on their front cover. I was never a religious reader of the magazine and would only check it occasionally when a very important artist I cared about had a main feature. Besides, why do we need Vibe for the R&B scoops when you can just come to Toya’s World? LOL.

This issue was put in the can over a month ago. They were working on a Michael Jackson tribute issue when they were given the news of the magazine folding. I grew up with vibe it was one of the first magazines I religiously read and I’m sorry to see it go. I did notice in the last year how the quality of the magazine had significantly declined. It was a like a dying friend you knew in the back of your mind was going but you didn’t wanna outright admit it. In this day and age with blogs and the internet reporting fresh news as its happening free of charge the idea of a magazine publication like vibe is outdated. R.I.P Vibe

There is nothing classy about this cover. Janets was iconic, artistic really. This looks like someones myspace picture. I’m sure Vibe didnt have time to do an MJ tribute cover, nobody planned on him passing last week..however, i’m sure they knew they were in financial trouble and any upcoming cover could be their last which is the exact reason why every cover they did this year should’ve been great or made a statement. This cover fails at that.

Um… This is a trashy cover. It doesn’t look right. He look like he’s getting ready to rip her torso in two and she looks like she’s about to fall, and is hanging on to his head to prevent that. Not to mention The Dream totally kills it. He’s ugly and looks uncomfortable, as if he knows he’s out of place. And her hair is a bit much. Looks like a giant squid is attacking her face.
