THE HIGHS & LOWS OF 2008: NOVEMBER & DECEMBER…

THE HIGHS & LOWS OF 2008: NOVEMBER & DECEMBER…November 2008
Britney Spears hadn’t performed since her disastrous VMA performance just over a year ago. Her performance left many mouths salty with fans asking themselves if she’s lost it as a performer. So when she was scheduled to perform lead single ‘Womanizer’ at a number of shows across the globe, she disappointed BADLY. Her poor performances as of late should be a testament that she’s not fit to go on tour. I mean, let’s face it. She’s hardly admired for her vocal abilities. People want to see hot performances and if she can no longer deliver those hot performances, it defeats all purpose of a Britney comeback, period. Maybe she’ll shock us next year but I’m not really counting on it. I think she should just concentrate on being a mom to her kids because her stamina to perform just isn’t there anymore. It’s like she’s lost a massive portion of her confidence and self-esteem and it shows.

Beyonce released her highly anticipated album ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’ on Nov 18th. Whilst I thought the ‘Beyonce’ side of her album was elegant and beautiful, I thought her ‘Sasha’ side was immature and dumb. Even the uptempo’s on her debut solo album ‘Dangerously In Love’ were much better and mature in its production. Matter of fact, DIL is the best album of career. I play that album more than I do her new one. But I’ve already vented enough about her gimmicky project.

THE HIGHS & LOWS OF 2008: NOVEMBER & DECEMBER…X Factor winner Alexandra Burke wins the X FACTOR, after almost fainting and sobbing uncontrollably when she performed with her idol Beyonce. I believe there are good things in the pipeline for Alex. I am also reading that next month she flies out to the United States to start recording her debut album. Good luck to her. I hope they hook her up with some good producers. But more importantly, I want an uptempo album with few ballads. A lot of people are saying she’s just another Leona, but if she wants to steer clear from those comparisons, she needs to not be moulded into a balladry act which is what Leona has become. Alex says she’s nothing like Leona but more like Beyonce because she intends to shake her butt on stage. I love how she already has an outline mapped out for herself and the direction she plans to go in.

December 2008
So now we’re here. Entering the final moments of 2008. Britney released her album ‘Circus’ which was decent. Folks showed they are still backing her because she got the no 1 single and album. Plus, the album sold over 500K in first week sales. A lot of the songs shit on ‘Womanizer’. Some folks disagree but oh well. Keyshia Cole was one of the artists I was hoping would save R&B music this year but she too failed me. Brandy had a nice album though, despite it being her most commercial in production. It’s not better than ALL her previous ones but still a nice effort. Here’s hoping that 2009 brings us a better year for music. Not just R&B music, but music in general.

My girl Britney … her album is very good, for some reason no matter what this girl does people always like her. She sold more than Bey. I hope her father continues to be with her cause otherwise she will go back to the same place.. and her ex-kevin has a new girlfriend, that dude has gained weight he doesnt even look cute anymore. I guess he stopped using drugs and eating a lot, sex and babysitting.

According to EW, if we’re going by Beyonce’s definition of a diva as a “female version of a hustler” then RiRi’s definitely a diva!

That girl’s been hustling hard since her first appearance on the scene, with each of her albums yielding a Number 1 single. But her latest and most explosive album, Good Girl Gone Bad, has wrecked the charts with 8 hit singles which includes the ubiquitous Umbrella, and is her third record in 2 years!

In addition to hit singles, girlfriend’s re-released Good Girl with bonus tracks, and has an upcoming CD of remixes for 2009. She also toured with Kanye’s Glow in the Dark, has designed for H&M, scored a hot boyfriend, and worked with other artists (T.I., for example, and a rumored Kanye project).

She’s currently tied with Beyonce for the most number one songs within a decade for a female solo artist.

    Beyonce better start hustling!

one thing you fail to understand is that Beyonce is very creative while rihanna isnt creative at all… she is number 1 cause of the producers she is using and if you check maybe her pay is way lower than other artist. sometimes when I hear stuff about rihanna i start to picture marion jones… she went all the way up and came down big time… wtf. rihanna has already started to fade… i mean why release a remix, how about doing something new… she has no voice to save her ass… did you also check her concerts?? the girl just walks around while entertainers are supposed to entertain and not just walk around.

Anife - one thing you fail to understand is that Beyonce is very creative while rihanna isnt creative at all…

LMAOOOO… omg, that was a GOOD one lmao. I seriously lol’d at that xDD.

Beyonce steals EVERYONES ideas. BeYAWNce is NOT original. Beyonce changed ONE word in a song JUST so she can get a writing credit for the song. How pathetic is that. She did that to A LOT of the songs on her cd, just so she can get her name in the writing credits. Please. Anyone can change one or two words in a song… Get the fuck out.

Britney shits all over beyawnces so called ‘music’.

  9. aniFeNo Gravatar Says:

    @ Ethan

thats why I like Bey she knows in this industry if your not smart people will f** you, look at rihanna now, famous but broke while Bey is laughing all the way to the bank. and lastly you must be a hater.

    BACK IN THE REAL WORLD…

I Am…Sasha Fierce shelved off 210,900 discs this week, pushing the album’s total sales to 1,458,800 copies in the U.S. landing her at #2 up from 5 last week.

Bey also sets a new record with 8 top 10 hits in Hot 100 Airplay, she matches the amount Destiny’s Child had and she also scores her fourth #1 on the Hot Dance charts (her first since Naughty Girl in 2004)

She’s #1 on Hot R&B/Hip Hopp albums and singles charts, on the singles chart she’s spent six weeks at #1

  12. GNo Gravatar Says:

    ALSO

This is her 5th time having an album in the top ten year ending charts for albums sold. She did it twice with DC and three times with all her solo albums including IASF which comes in @ the 10th spot for most album sales 2008 and it only came out two months ago. Not bad if I says o my self.

  13. GNo Gravatar Says:

@miyro Beyonce is the definition of a hustla. She is the ultimate hustla so she doesn’t need any advice in that area. When Rihanna is a partner with Def Jam and not a slave (yeah Bey is partnered with Sony, diva getting money) then we’ll talk but RiRi does work hard I’ll give her that. But She definitely ain’t no boss, Bey is a boss a hustla.

    Britney
Circus sounded like Britney was actually more into the songs and featured less vocal processing, but Blackout had better songs overall. “Gimme more” will forever be that crack. I still play that song now. As well as “Freakshow” and “Get back”. In terms of her personal life, she seems to be back on the right path - but seems she could crack and meltdown any second with all the pressure being placed on her. She doesn’t seem to be all that with it. And her performances have all been whack and not leagues ahead of that debacle at the VMA’s. She needs to fix up.

    Sasha Fierce sales
Beyonce would’ve been better off making that album 1 disc with just 1 SKU. The whole standard and deluxe edition was a waste, because the deluxe version is blatantly the better version for “Smash into you” and “Scared of lonely” alone! Plus, if you don’t give consumers the choice, they have to buy whatever’s available. I thought it was a silly idea. Japan got one version of the album, which was the deluxe version, which had the better album cover (the standard edition cover), lyrics for the Sasha Fierce song and 3 bonus tracks - all for the price of the standard version. Which is why I copped it when I was over there.

As for Dangerously in love - I thought that album was whack! “Yes” was a JAM, everything else was patchy. That album had good singles and not much else. It has very little replay value for me. I preferred B’Day to that inconsistent mess. And I think I am… Sasha Fierce could’ve been a solid album if she’d condensed the album into one disc and done more songs with Ryan Teddar and Rodney Jerkins. Rodney Jerkins always comes with gold when he works with B. “Scared of lonely” was a JAM! I can’t believe it got tagged on the end of the Sasha Fierce disc on the deluxe edition like it was some throwaway song. She claims she took risks with the album, but she didn’t really. The Sasha Fierce disc negated any risk she took with the I am… disc. A real risk would’ve been putting out I am… on it’s own.

    Alexandra
Already she has more sass, grit and personality to her than Leona initially had. I just hope she gets teamed up with the right producers. Leave Leona to do the smooth, ballad stuff and give Alexandra the more edgy material.

I have a new appreciation for this song, the energy was high and those splits were BOSS!!!

    Time for a new single.

  26. Mickey From His Mobile Says:

    I lied lol.

Natasha Bedingfield was BANANAZ and Robin Thicke was SICKENGLY FIERCE!!!! They shut it down.

He performed my favorite track from ‘Somethin Else’, Dreamworld, and it almost put me in tears. The immense energy he got from such a slow song was AMAZING. I wish this would be a single cuz the vid would be fierce.

Im only up for NB now becuz I think shez gonna do my shyt, ANGEL!!!!!!!

I couldnt agree more! I understand her dumbing it down a little but Sasha was Down right retarded!!! But isnt it suppose to be “ICONIC”

    Happy 2009 :)

Britney - Umm, I’m enjoying ‘Circus’, her performances have been bad - for her standard. She needs to sort it out for the tour, & ‘Circus’ has also gone platinum in the US.

Beyonce - I’m also enjoying ‘I Am… Sasha Fierce’ alot more now. I think I’m the only one that prefers Sasha’s side though, lol. I lurrrv ‘Video Phone’.

Alexandra - Just seen her perform on Elton John’s new years eve party, she nailed it, as always. I hopeeeeee she has uptempo’s, but I just don’t think she’s gunna get given them.

  30. NathanNo Gravatar Says:

Alexandra’s album isn’t coming out March. She’s releasing an EP, which will include 5 tracks, that she’s performing live.

  31. Uzo- Mayor Of TunevilleNo Gravatar Says:

With all due respect, Britney’s performances were not terrible. Lackluster, but not whack or terrible. They were an 1,000 mile cry from her performances in the early 2000’s, though.
She might be saving it up for the tour.

Beyonce is on her way to sell more than Mariah Carey, who since April has only sold 1,800,000. In the next two weeks, Beyonce’s is most probably gonna surpass that.

  33. JJ Says:

Get Over the Britney thing, come on people, give that girl some damn time, she will be back, when she started she gave bad performances till one point and now with the meltdown and everything, she lost her confidence and you can’t gain it back with some performenaces, I will give her at least one year and I’m sur she will shock us all.

  34. cinoucNo Gravatar Says:

    @ JJ

I agree with you… I love brit, although she has a mediocre voice, her performances are usually very nice not like rihanna

  35. LovergirlNo Gravatar Says:

@ JJ No don’t give her break cuz if she need more time then she shouldn’t have released circus…Riri Is wayyyyyyyyyyy better than brit and her stats prove it

  36. JJ Says:

    @ LOVERGIRL

uuuh HOW is she supposed to get her confidence back if she is not even allowed to release an album and start promoting it, to get that confidence back bit by bit?

and Rihanna… I like her music, but no she is nothing live, even those ”bad” performanced of brit lately are better then Rihanna’s…
