![Beyonce: I Am...sasha Fierce [album Review]... BEYONCE: I AM...SASHA FIERCE [ALBUM REVIEW]...](http://i193.photobucket.com/albums/z76/toyabloggerj/ALBUMREV.jpg)
This week, Beyonce releases her third studio album ‘I Am…Sasha Fierce’; a double disc album which differentiates between her two different personalities Beyonce and Sasha Fierce. The chilled out and more mature side consists of acoustic well-sung balladry to emphasise Beyonce’s passionate side whilst the other disc knocks hard with catchy upbeat dance numbers to emphasise Sasha’s fiery side. A great way to open up the album was the overly empowering gender-reversing pop ballad ‘If I Were A Boy’. Lyrically and conceptually, it is one of the strongest tracks on the album. When I heard the BC Jean demo previously, I was kind of skeptical that Beyonce would not have been able to pull off such a track. Unlike her previous pop smash ‘Irreplaceable’, this song had more of a rock and country-ish edge to any song that she’s recorded in her career. You don’t usually associate these type of tracks to a big powerful and soulful voice like Beyonce’s especially one that possesses a heavily-influenced Southern drawl. Amazingly, Beyonce smashed the song to pieces with so much ease only proving that as far as musical content is concerned, nothing is challenging for this talented 27-year-old. You can give her a Mary Poppins song to sing and she will find a way to make that song contemporary, fresh and cool. So I give her much credit for that.
It also appears Ms Beyonce was influenced by the very sound that took Leona Lewis’s ‘Bleeding Love’ to phenomenal chart domination in all world markets. Beyonce hired Ryan ‘Alias’ Tedder, the man behind the track for her next single ‘Halo’; a song which impresses with her remarkable vocal delivery. She sings the track flawlessly over a heavy barrage of drums, piano, and trumpets. Ironically, the song was originally intended for Leona anyway but the fact that Beyonce got the song and nailed it is to be appreciated. Another romantic love ballad lies in ‘Ave Maria’ which samples from the iconic opera singer Charles Aznavour and may have sealed Beyonce’s ability as an empowering vocalist. This is the song that is possibly one of the most vocally-challenged on the album. The passion, the rawness in her delivery and emotive vocal work on the song is simply beautiful and clearly sets the tone of a woman truly in love with her man. Other conventional ballads from the album consist of my favourite like the Tricky Stewart & The Dream-assisted ‘Smash Into You’ and ‘Broken-Hearted Girl’ as well as the guitar-driven ‘Disappear’ and ‘Satellites’. Ballads like ‘Hello’ and ‘That’s Why You’re Beautiful’ are not as engaging but still serve their place on the record.
The Sasha portion of the album was underwhelming and rather lacking. There were no ‘Crazy In Love’s’ or ‘Deja Vu’s’. These were much more consistent and mature sounding than the hardhitting urban grinders like ‘Single Ladies’ which production-wise is a rehash of ‘Get Me Bodied’ and the seriously crunk-sounding ‘Diva’ which is heavily influenced by Lil Wayne’s ‘A Milli’, something to appease her hardcore fanbase I guess. But the most urban sounding songs that truly grabbed my attention consisted of the other planned single ‘Ego’ which boasts of an oldskool and soulful 80’s sass (my type of Beyonce). Not to mention her clever play on words because well, we really know what she’s truly singing about here (and I’m sure Jay-Z will be pleased with her subliminal compliments), as well as the fantastic ‘Scared of Lonely’ which I’ll say Rodney ‘Darkchild’ Jerkins did the damn thang on. Beyonce even channels the overly popularized euro-dance craze with tracks like ‘Radio’ which is infiltrated with some techno and synthesized instruments. ‘Sweet Dreams’, another standout, is an infectious synth-pop number that leaked earlier this year as ‘Beautiful Nightmare’ and the extremely adult themed and sexy ‘Video Phone’ sees Beyonce singing more openly about sex and cell-phone pornography: “You want me naked? If you like this position you can tape it”. Marriage life has certainly bought out the fiery in this woman and I love it.
Overall, I was a bit miffed that none of the Timbaland joints made the cut and I was curious about what was cooked up with Justin Timberlake. I’m taking it she is saving the left-over cake for the re-release in February 2009. And in that aspect, I won’t be buying this album until February (I’d buy it mainly for the Beyonce personality). I think it’s a kick in the face to the fans to re-release an album THREE months later after the original release just for some extra bits and bobs but with the state of today’s economy and the shattering credit crunch, for now, no can do. I will just stay chilling out to my burned copy that I attained from last week. It’s not like the album is a masterpiece anyway and it certainly isn’t cut-glass enough to cement Beyonce’s place as an icon. The production was all over the place and out of the 70 plus songs recorded for the album, I’m thinking many of the songs chosen were probably the most underwhelming.
What I missed about the Beyonce this time round is a good ole R&B slow jam like the ‘Cater to You’s’ and the ‘Me Myself and I’s’, which we didn’t get here since Beyonce is trying to tap into a more broader and wider audience with the soft-rock cross-over balladry. It sees her transitioning into a distinct direction and sound and channeling her idol Barbra Streisand in the process, though I’m hearing other influences like U2, Celine and maybe this is a huge stretch but a bit of softcore Pink as well. Whilst I enjoyed the Beyonce side much more, I do appreciate that she took risks with this latest new project. Standouts consist of Ego, Halo, Scared of Lonely, Smash Into You and Broken-Hearted Girl.
Rating: 3/5

Hi,
I’m just getting started with my new blog. Would you want to exchange links on our blog-rolls?
BTW - I’m up to about 100 visitors per day.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:25 am
3 out of 5 is justified. The first half is more solid than the 2nd half. Overall, average and really nothing amazing or 4 or 5 stars like the stans would hype it up to be.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:28 am
@Toya
Your reviews are always on point. You should be getting paid for this sort of thing. You seriously deserve props.
My stand out tracks are - If I Were A Boy, Halo, Hello, Scared Of Being Lonely, Broken-Hearted Girl, Radio and Ego is growing on me everytime I listen to it.
I won’t be buing the record untill Febuary either because I don’t want to end up with 2 copies of the same c.d as I did with B’day. Also rumour has it she will be releasing a video for every track as she did with B’day on the rerelease so it will be worth the money then I think.
November 18th, 2008 at 3:31 am
why 3/5 I’d say 2/5
November 18th, 2008 at 4:00 am
Good review Toya! The album wasn’t very good. I was expecting to blown away, but it was really underwhelming. Your review’s pretty fair, but I was thinking more like 2.5/5… although I see why you gave it a 3.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:04 am
I’d give it a 3 out of 5 as well. I’m still waiting for her to prove she’s an ACTUAL artist.

November 18th, 2008 at 4:52 am
Hmmmm……interesting review, though i would have giving her a 4/5, just by the mere fact that she step out of the box ,expanded her reach into different genres of music and not playing safe.Resulting not repeating the same sounds sounds from her previous CDs. Obviously the ’sasha fierce’ part is there to please the hardcore fans. Anyhow she can’t please everybody

November 18th, 2008 at 5:45 am
im not suprised!,i predicted all this stuff yestarday and some delusional stans attacked me for it(guess now i can say i told u so)it was like toya read my mind for that review only she should have stuck with 2\5,flop!(even with all the gimmicks and double disk and re_release)da album is still whack!,the only thing left 4 toya 2 do now is let us know how much she has sold so far and compare it to alicia keys as i am(with no robo gloves, double disk, multiple personality, non stop dancing in video, whack movie)
November 18th, 2008 at 5:53 am
When i say flop u say flop(flop!)when i say whack u say whack(whack!)oh yeah!oh yeah!,my personal review coming up(we are not the same stans im a martian!)
November 18th, 2008 at 5:55 am
The sasha fierce side is soooo disappointing, especially given what she’s done in the past (crazy in love, deja vu, naughty girl, DC songs)
Disappear is also a standout. One of the three best songs of this album with no doubt !!!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:02 am
The review is way off…
You listed
Broken Hearted Girl,Disappear,If I were a boy,Ego,Radio,Video Phone, Smash into you, Hello, Halo,Scared of Lonely
10 tracks from a 16 track album, and you give it a half assed rating..it just contradicts your post. You find 10 tracks to be standouts, & only 6 which were engaging, as well. I believe that it deserved at least a 3.5!
Then again, you gave Robin Thicke a 3/5 but you gave Mariah Carey a stellar review, and her album didn’t compare to Beyonce’s or Robin!
As Beyonce starting taking her fans through a true evolution, year after year. She came back this year stronger then ever! Stand out tracks from this album include, Smash into you, If I were a Boy, Hello, Ego, Video Phone, Halo, Disappear, Broken Hearted Girl, Scared & Lonely, Radio, & Diva!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:04 am
Therm, what can we call you……a Pan! Yes you’re flat, your dull, your wear out over time. Eventually we will replace you with a more modern utensil. Until then, we have to watch as you fry yourself to pieces!

November 18th, 2008 at 6:34 am
I give the album a 1.5/ 5
even britney spears, pink and from the sound of it Brandy got a better album then the highly anticpated I AM…
I remember some of her stans counting down the dayz until her album and now that its here many stans have killed theirselves b/c this shit is garbage!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:37 am
what is wrong with you guys this is a 5/5 album this album was perfect. Beyonce challenged herself and mall the songs do not even sound like a typical beyonce song. as an artists you would try to be differen’t and not in a box. YOu guys don’t know what you are talking about.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:46 am
I am starting to hate the song Boy….I love Hello, Ego, Video Phone, Disappear, and Broken Hearted Girl….the rest is awful and Scared of Lonely is plain annoying!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:46 am
Oh and Halo but I can already tell thats gonna be so damn annoying too!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:48 am
I give bey 4/5. I dont care what people say I loooooooovvvvvvvee this album esp. the ballads and single ladies.

All hell about to break loose in here
November 18th, 2008 at 6:50 am

November 18th, 2008 at 6:53 am
how the mighty has fallen(what a pity)maybe shes gonna come up with a third personality for the re_release(sunita giselle knox)for now erbady just soak it all up,wonder if the video album will be all black and white!,pssssttt!\oh dear stans where are you?,i want to hear u guys defend this album and laugh!\”bitch im d bomb like tick tick”(lil wayne)im oufff!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:54 am
Hysterical, everyone already knows that you are about to get your feelings hurt. I am going to tell you, like I tell the other kids, when coming for me you better have amazing reflexs because bitch you will gag! You need to take a seat & learn how to use the space key. I can tell you are a child! A little girl who is infatuated with Beyonce, but so concerned about others loving her, that you attempt to gain face & become selfish by forcing everyone to turn against her. I tell you, jealousy really isn’t a cute outfit. I must say…You’re looking quite tacky!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:57 am
This fool here is going to make 30 post, but only changing the first portion of their display name. How childish! Kids will never enjoy actual music, because they don’t know the substance. Which is why Beyonce offered you all the Sasha side. For the people like me, who enjoy hearing actual music & lyrical knowledge, she offered us Beyonce. For the teens who will never understand…Enjoy “Sasha” I enjoy the entire album. When I am in the mood for partying, it’s easy to convert to Sasha Fierce, when I am in the mood for relaxing, it’s easy to convert to Beyonce. Everyone wanted to hear a broken hearted Beyonce. She’s in Love & it exudes in her lyrical content. This is just finness!
November 18th, 2008 at 6:57 am
No Alchemist aka sandra rose, there is only one me on this blog.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:59 am
Alchemist = Sandra rose
November 18th, 2008 at 7:01 am
The personalities are coming out of the woodwork.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:01 am
I agree with your review 100%
November 18th, 2008 at 7:02 am
Beyonce has an alter ego, she is bipolar skitzofrantic, like some of these kids! Ridiculous! I am going to need for Alchemist to go try & ruin Christina Aguleria, because it’s not going to work in the Knowles Camp!
November 18th, 2008 at 7:05 am
LOL
November 18th, 2008 at 7:14 am
The album review is on point! I love me some Bee but she didnt bring it! TRACK BY TRACK ….RIGHT. The album wasnt put together well. Plain and Simple! 70 SONGS Recorded and this is how you package your album??????? This is what you gave us? Im still a fan and enjoy each song but not as an album. Its like a random playlist of songs.
My fave tracks: Disapper (I love the words and her Low key singing), Radio(Its so euro pop and she makes it sounds good a la mode Rihanna), Ego (I see females and males alike jamming this…cant wait for the Kanye Remix and we all know Jay Z will do his own his own as well, lol), Broken Hearted Girl (Womens Anthem right here), Halo (Its an instant Hit… Leona Lewis swag jacker), Video Phone(Its great hearing Beyonce be a naughty nasty girl), Hello (This is the closes track to the old Beyonce… DC and DIL Album) and I will throw Smash Into You in there as well.
And yes I bought the album.
November 18th, 2008 at 7:16 am
3.5 out of 5

Toya has a pest problem around here.
November 18th, 2008 at 8:03 am
@DEE
TOTALLY agree with you on your assement of the album. At least major critics like Rollingstone mag, Billboard and EW all gave her positive raving reviews.Once again Toya was a bit off with this review
November 18th, 2008 at 8:04 am
HA! ha! ha! ha! ha! ha!,why am i so happy today?,@ja=i got a thing 4 trannys ja can ya blame me?,ha ha ha ha ha!,ohhh mama! lol!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:07 am
Madness already… TW posters & DEe plz IGNORE the Crazies..
I do think some of the reviews Toya gives can be “so-so”… I think it deserved a 3.5, just beacuse of the many songs that Stood-out.. But oh well…
On another NOTE… when Deja Vu came out many of you weren’t Keen to the song.. Now I think its appreciated more just b/c.. Don’t kno why… L♥ve the Video though..
Another NOTE… she played safe w/ DIL & she took a risk w/ BDay.. & they both did good respectfully.. People could never be pleased!! I give her credit for making such an album(which I have yet to hear, until I buy it..) B/c why would she make the same music?!?! Ppl will complain about her not switchin up.. Its a Double edge sword w/ her…
Another NOTE… I think when your album is “all over the place” & still nail it Vocally, that’s a good thing.. B/c many artist cant do that.. The last person that did that was Kanye West w/ Late Registration(IMO)…
Two albums that were “all over the place” & sucked(IMO) were Ciara The Evolution & Rihanna A Girl Like Me(IMO).. & its not HATING, its my point of view..
BTW I was literally forced 2 hear those albums, I was stuck @ my Brothers house & had NO CHOICE..literally..:-(
Playin safe may work for some(Britney Spears & Alicia Keys).. Britney hasn’t changed her sound since In The Zone(or since S4U whichever came 1st).. & Alicia Keys hasn’t either.. I l♥ve Alica.. btw.. Her best Album was TDOAK.. As I Am was & IS a SNOOZE FEST!
That’s my 2cents for the time being…
November 18th, 2008 at 8:17 am
Hey ja lets be friends!,wanna be my bff? lol!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:18 am
3/5 sounds right…the album was far from a classic…it was too random…and stans sorry the reviewers are disagreeing with y’all…the highest she’s gotten is 3.5/5…
i guess ALL the reviewers are HATING? anyways i can’t wait for HALO!!! and RADIO!!! and SMASH to be singles…the spanish version of IIWAB is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:18 am
@ JA,Hey ja lets be friends!,wanna be my bff? lol!
November 18th, 2008 at 8:18 am
I think reaching out to the spanish community is good… WE’RE HERE AINT WE AINT GOING NO ¡D∇MN! WHERE!!…LOL….
they are very supportive people & loyal fans.. I’m not saying other races aren’t.. That’s just what I kno for a fact as a Latina.. A prime example, Gloria Trevi(google her & you’ll kno why)..
November 18th, 2008 at 8:20 am
This album is all over the place.
The only song I like is sweet dreams.
The rest are boring*
Beyonce doesnt have her “sound/image” I think she just jumps from sound to sound and try to do whats in or hot at the moment. Unlike her sister who has found a formula that works for her like the whole old skool sound, beyonce just seems to be all over the place with her albums.
Im going to need for her to make her own sound, b/c i hate to admit it but she does swagger jack. Some of the tracks have that “rihanna, leona lewis or insert white adult contemporary artists name _________ sound” Yes i realize that these artists that i mention didnt make that sound, but its what they’re known for. Like for example M.I.A. is known for her “retro hip hop beats whatever you wanna call it lol” sound and when santagold came out people called her a swagger jacker b/c her sound was similar to M.I.A.
I agree with one of the other posters that im going to need for beyonce to prove to me that she is an artist/musican and not just an over the top entertainer. Theres a difference between an entertainer and an artist. Britney spears–> entertainer…norah jones, alicia keys –> musician.
this is just my opinon. so stans take a chill pill dont get so over-worked and spend countless hours on Toyas-world.net trying to change non-bey stans opinions.
ok darlings

britney’s Circus moved up to number 3 again on itunes…yay!!!

I don’t see you guys putting your music out for people such as yourself to ridicule! It’s really ridiculous how IGNORANT America is!! I am really ashamed! Overall, I think Beyonce went a new direction and gave something to her hardcore fans! She did a great job in my opinion!

November 18th, 2008 at 9:13 am
I actually am in love with Circus because it does sound like britney with growith, beyonce’s cd sounds like a cut and paste of every one who is on top right now, she has not identity just a fame obsession and it is beginning to show. And the real beyonce is sasha is songs like diva and videophone, that is beyonce a skank wannabe hood rat,the rest is other people. She shoud have called it I AM trying to be everyone and everything.
November 18th, 2008 at 9:13 am

wtf you talking about? is it too much to ask an artist to make a decent album? i mean hell this is suppose to be their dreams and passion to make music. so why not ask for something to stimulate my mind, body and soul? if im going to spend my hard earned money on an album i want it to be the shit!

November 18th, 2008 at 9:46 am
3/5// The review is ON POINT! And is everything I would of said. All the critics are giving it 3/5 aswell. I don’t understand how timbo did NOT make the cut, I was a bit pissed at that. Anyway I’m not buying because It wasn’t good enough to spen £15 on. maybe the re-release that means that I would like to see most of the tracklisting change however.
November 18th, 2008 at 9:48 am
@that superstar\tsotsi,compare d tracks youve heard from keri hilsons upcoming album with iasf in its entierity!,and ill see yall on the next post(nice to see ppl that love music to the ears and not obsessed with the artistes fake life)yall should come here more often!,rasta!

I haven’t listened to the album yet but good review, one of your better ones (I guess Beyonce brings out the best in everyone!
).
But you may wanna do research before you decide to postpone getting the album until the re-release because several times I have read that the re-release is only gonna be a Spanish album. No Habla English at all!
November 18th, 2008 at 10:13 am
I would have given the album a 3.5/5. Everyone has always said how they want a lyrically mature album; she gave you that. She switched it up and that should be commended.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:14 am
Beyonce is number 2 on itunes for those who wanted to know.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:14 am
I will give it 4.5/5. Although the Sasha side gets 3.5/5, the Beyonce side gets 4.9/5. People are complaining about songs they don’t like in the album. That’s fine, but how about the ones you like? Why cut out tracks? Hell I would rather have an 18 track album than a 10 track album with only the ones I like, even if 8 are crap. If you don’t like the rest, just don’t listen to it. Disappear, Halo, Ego, Smash Into You, Hello, Satellites and Why don’t you love me are all songs I see myself listening to for many years to come.
My rating is 4.5/5.

November 18th, 2008 at 10:31 am
Circus is so shit It’s ubelieveable. It’s actually one of the worst albums that remains on my ipod. The production is all over the place and Urban? I hear Pop Blackout was more urban than this shit. ARRRRRRRRGHHHH! It’s funny how when britney was fucked up in her brain she made better music…
November 18th, 2008 at 10:33 am
Many disagree and feel Circus is her best yet.
I could care less about I AM, her voice is too shrilly for me and I get annoyed after a while.
I heard some of Brandy’s tracks and her album seems to be shaping up.
Timbo probably didn’t make it as they probably couldnt agree on royalty and TImbo was not about to get pimped by those Knowles.
And back to Brit its not even a lotof hype ala multiple personality, two single release, etc, everybody knows shes droppng an album that is about the extent of the hype , no icon talk, legend etc. Bey just better hope she lives up to her hype.

November 18th, 2008 at 10:56 am
I have to say that I don’t agree with Toya’s review. No surprise there.
I give it a 4/5. I like all of the songs on the album with the exception of That’s Why You’re Beautiful. That song isn’t even a grower as far as I can tell. Plus the album is very random. It’s like they threw all the names of the 70 songs in a hat and drew out 16.
The stand out tracks IMO are If I Were A Boy, Halo, Disappear, Smash Into You, Radio, Sweet Dreams, Hello and Ego.
November 18th, 2008 at 10:59 am
I don’t feel smash into you or radio.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:00 am
The fact that everyone on here has 3 songs that they consider hot, makes this a solid album. There is something on there for everyone. There are songs on every album that stand out & others that grow. There are songs that will never grow on you & you can skip through. The fact that I enjoy every song, and my least favorite is “Sattelites” shows me that this is a classic.
Dosen’t matter if you’re country you’ll like “If I were a Boy”, “Disappear”, “broken Hearted Girl” & “Smash Into you”
Pop: “If I were a Boy” “Broken Hearted Gir” “smash Into you” “Radio” “Sweet dreams”
urban: “hello” “Halo” “Video Phone” “Single Ladies” “Diva”
There is just something for everyone on this album. You don’t have to like the entire thing, but the fact that everyone can agree that atleast 4 songs stood out makes it a classic.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:02 am
3 songs does not make a album solid Dee shut up about classic. It’s a good album but nowhere near classic or iconic.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:03 am
I don’t think an album needs to be totally conceptual. The fact that she allowed differen genres to blend to make an album, makes it that more hot. I know that I enjoy the fact she was mellow, and then brought out a little more urban side, then took it back with the sash fierce. Every song was just expressing where she is in life right now. She is a random person, and people are random. You have people who are in love, people who are heart broken, people who want to dance, people who are just living life!
BTW, Carl

Beyonce “I am sasha fierce” Classic.
Classic dosen’t have to be in the eyes of the industry…dorks. Your opinion makes it a classic. Beyonce is a Icon & this album along with Dangerously in Love are classics.
B’day is a party essential!

And I agree with Mia. I would have given the album a 4/5. Maybe I’m biased, but I thought the album was beautiful.
And Toya, you know you’re never getting this album LOL.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
I agree 100% with you Toya, I would have liked some collabo’s, some midtempo’s, and there weren’t any ‘Crazy In Love’ or ‘Deja Vu’s’. I’d give it a 3.5/5.
Still it’s a gooooood album!
November 18th, 2008 at 11:52 am
Dee is so annoying.
November 18th, 2008 at 11:57 am
Damn Toya. You gave Michelle’s ‘UnExpected’ higher than that, didn’t you? I will give it a 3 too. The Sasha Fierce side is nothing but leftovers from ‘Bday’….And her song ‘Radio’ is a leftover song from Michelle’s recording sessions with Rico Love and Jim Jonsin. Soooooooooooo, but I really LOVE the song ‘Halo’…a gr8, gr8, gr8 song for Beyonce….Another ‘Irreplaceable’…..
November 18th, 2008 at 12:24 pm
We all have our preferences, just like in smells, what smells good to you may stink to me, and yes her voice gets annoying fast to me.
I think what most are saying is that
November 18th, 2008 at 12:34 pm
Honestly I would’ve given it a 4/5. I loved every song. One of my favorites is that’s why your beautiful. The lyrics is deep. and it’s simplistic and the harmonies are heaven. You do have to be in a certain mood for it though. It’s not a Iconic album, but it is something new, and in my opinion, a step up from B’Day.
November 18th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Very on point, Toya.
It’s funny how stans consider that 6 good songs out of a double disk and the rest sounding from average to rubbish deserves more than 3/5…
And Dee, an album isn’t a classic just cause you thought so. Professionnal reviews didn’t think so, you should think about it…(no wonder your musical career is nowhere near as taking off)
November 18th, 2008 at 1:39 pm
review on point toya. 3/5 here too
November 18th, 2008 at 1:41 pm
I really like Toya’s review. The actual album is disapointing to me to because
1. The “Deluxe Edition” is the same CD but with two tracks on each ego, Beyonce and Sasha so I total of four more tracks to the original, ten track today. So if she recorded 70 tracks isn’t only 14 tracks on a Deluxe Edition a bit selfish? I haven’t seen a CD with ten tracks in a long time.
2. So basically buying the standard edition is a waste of money because no songs are left off on the Deluxe Edition which is odd to me
3. Neither CD book as any thank yous which is a first for Beyonce and Destiny’s Child. This is one advantage of buying the actual CD that many fans look forward to and appreciate, that the artist actually writes a personal message thanking fans and other who impacted their sucess.. I Am…Sasha Fierce has none at all! WOW Beyonce dropped low to not even have a single thank you
4. I am Alone Now is not on either CD which is a big disapointment since it leaked weeks ago and is one of the standout tracks, the CD is really missing that song.
5. Beyonce did take risks, but to me the risks were nothing too extraordinary most were expected and very hip hop influenced, Wow ! I didn’t expect any hip hop from Ms. Carter (sarcastic)
November 18th, 2008 at 2:21 pm
Im sure since you pointed out the lack of thank yous the rerelease will have some, don’t yall get it yet, Bey just wants your money.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:29 pm
I couldn’t care less about the thank yous. Whether they are done or not has never influenced my decision to buy or not buy an album.
November 18th, 2008 at 2:38 pm
Are you telling me her thanking me is what makes an album from Ok to classic? Shows you how much people actually care for the music…
November 18th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
I’m sorry ya’ll… I am a big Fan of Beyonce, Janet, Britney, and Christina. HUGE FAN! I was so excited that these Bitches were going to bring it with thier albums this year! First up…
JANET…. BOOOOOOOO!!!!!! She offered us a taste of some hot shit on a burning plate and called it an album. SO HORRIBLE!
Christina… Granted it is a greatest hits album… but she recorded two new tracks…. HORRIBLE! If I wanted Lady GAGA I would have bought LADY GAGA. Then she does that live performance on MTV and later says she doesn’t know who Lady GAGA is….. Stupid Bitch!!! Your people that dressed you and guided you should have told you who she was. Someone around her should have noticed the issue with that. Christina Aguilera…. Do you want to know who Lady Gaga is? She’s the artist that is going to out shine you and blow you out the water. Thats who she is. Sorry. Just deal with it and move on….
BEYONCE… GARBAGE! The two lead single’s miss lead everyone. We all thought this album was going to be a smash. WRONG! The best tracks are the ones on the radio. Poor girl. She must have a lot of “Yes” people in her life. Jay-z should have stepped in and said “Bey, get your ass back in the studio and pray to GOD no one hears this shit.” But it looks like he didn’t say that, and here we are, dealing with more Hot shit on a burning plate.
Britney…. The only one to serve it up!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU BRITNEY! THANK YOU FOR GIVING US WHAT WE WANTED! BRITNEY JUST TOOK A SHIT ON ALL THE DIVAS AND IS GOING TO BE SITTING PRETTY! Her crazy ass brought us Circus and its FIRE!!!!!!!! I bet my life that Britney out sells them all. EVEN BEYONCE! Hate on my comment all you want….
I love all my divas…. I’m just keeping it real!
November 18th, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Hey Toya.
Not hating, but i thought the review was a little off.
You forgot to mention “Dissapear”. Definitely a standout track. And For her to go so far out the box and give some quality music on the I Am disc, she should at least get a 3.5 - 4 rating. I think that’s where it should be. I waited to listen to the album until I bought it today and I was pleasantly surprised.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:01 pm
i think people put up reviews off first instinct. because b’day was not a fan favorite at first listen or second listen b’day eventually grew on everyone as they kept hearing each track in the clubs…cars..etc.
I think that DIL was an instantly great album didnt have to grow on you one bit.
I am.. sasha fierce is a great album over all yes it seems to be thrown to gether and doesnt flow like an ALBUM should but i think beyonce vocals choices of singles will propell this album to a great success.
Halo,Hello,Dissappear,broken-hearted,ego,Sweet Dreams,Diva,Radio,IIWAB,SINGLE LADIES,AVE MARIA,SMASH INTO U ARE THE BEST TRACKS ON THE ALBUM
THATS MORE THEN 75 PERCENT. SO I THINK THE ALBUM DESERVES A GOOD 4/5
I THINK “SHOULD HAVE KNOWN(FOREVER 2 BLEED) SHOULD OF BEEN ON THE ALBUM
November 18th, 2008 at 4:02 pm
It is very tacky to not have thank yous, no it does not reflect on the music but it reflects on the ‘artist’ beyonce. yes, its good to change trends but not the thank you trend, as noone can do it alone, oh I guess Beyonce can, and its tacky not to acknowledge support. But what does anyone really expect she is self absorbed and tacky and cares only for herself and so does Mom and Pop, its their world, you all are just meant to pay for it.
November 18th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Why does her acknowledgement have to be public?
November 18th, 2008 at 4:58 pm
Britney’s Album is 100x better!!!! And the Bitch can’t even sing like Beyonce…. But Britney’s album will do better!
November 18th, 2008 at 5:06 pm
well…I don’t know
maybe because she has a great promotional team (just look how B’Day sold) that deserve a public aknowledgement? Or at least that “thank you God for making me earn a lot without dishing decent tracks most of the time” sentence…?
The fact that she didn’t do them on an album that was supposed to give her an iconic stauts is just proof of how self centered she is
November 18th, 2008 at 5:07 pm
oupps, @Mia is me
November 18th, 2008 at 5:25 pm
I agree with Toya’s review. I found the I AM side to be a much more solid effort than the waste of time that is Sasha Fierce. I’m surprised that more people aren’t mentioning the fact that this album was speculated to be a country album and the result isn’t too far off (at least for half of it). Tracks like Satelites and Disappear definitely have a psuedo-country feel to them. Beyonce deserves some credit for doing more than the typical r&b album, however she ruins it with the Sasha Fierce side of the album. I agree with Toya, where were the genuine R&B tracks? Tracks like Video Phone are to R&B, what any Piles song is to hip-hop. Calling it urban is putting is nicely IMO. Although Beyonce is one the most well-rounded music acts out right now, she still hasn’t released that ICONIC album she’s looking for. I think DIL is still her best album to date. I’d give it a 2.5/5.
November 18th, 2008 at 5:43 pm
BTW ~ Where are all the “Thank Yous” from the people she keeps employed? You’d think “Thank Yous” would be a two way road.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:28 pm
to me beyonce new album. sound like ‘raven symone’ THIS IS MY TIME & her new album, that just came out. this past spring.
November 18th, 2008 at 6:45 pm
A lot of people like to read “Thank you’s” I do. I know I won’t see my name on there if I did I’d be a little confused. But most people just like it. Thet album deserves a 3.5/5. I’ve been listening to it non-stop trying to make myself like the whole thing–but I don’t. Someone mentioned artist shouldn’t have to make an entire album conceptual or it doesn’t have to flow. Yes it does. Some of the greatest albums in history have been ones that just fit together–”Thriller”, “Dark Side of the Moon”, even “Dangerously In Love” they are all ones where each track just works.
I don’t care for “Diva”, “Radio” or “Video Phone”. The whole Beyonce side is solid–I love that part. And then of course “Sweet Dreams”, “Ego” and “Hello”. “Smash into u” is my favorite, reminds me of a Coldplay jam.
But this is my opinion. I wasn’t expecting it to be that great of an album in the first place. It is a step up from B-Day, but in my opinion that ain’t saying much, cuz B-Day was just crap. But this one has potential. If she had of kept her mouth closed about a re-release then I would have bought the album today. But since there is going to be one, then I will just wait until Feb. Just downloaded the deluxe last week instead. Even though gas has gone down, I still gotta pay my bills, can’t afford to buy 2 copies of the same album–especially when there is only 1-2 songs that will be added.

I personally hated every song on the cd. I’m not a fan but I usually rock a Beyonce song despite my dislike of her personally i.e. Dangerously in Love, Irreplaceable. This album was soulless to me. I’ve been waiting for her to live up to the hype that is Beyonce but she always fall short. I support artists with my support and entertainers with my viewership. I will never buy a Beyonce album, however, just like Justin, I’ll watch her perform on a meaningless, dull, boring awards show. I guess I have outgrown Beyonce, Justin, Janet, Mariah, etc.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:46 am
In what universe would Beyonce be more than a 3 album rating? I have more hope for a gay, blind, deaf muslim female as next President of the United States than seeing that happening.
November 19th, 2008 at 2:06 am
Toya… I think you were being a little too kind with that review. Just want to put out there this…. What artist would let a song leak almost 5 months ago and then put it on thier album. Its because all the shit she came up with was just that…. SHIT! Now wait a minute….
I love Beyonce. Always have. Here’s all your problems right here. You all think whatever Bey puts out there is Grade A music. I’m sorry people. The truth hurts. Its not a great album.
AND FOR ALL YOU IDIOTS THAT THINK THE CD IS SOLDOUT IN CERTAIN PLACES ARE STUPID TO THINK THATS TRUE! AAAAAANNNNNNND….THEY DON’T COUNT THE INDIVIDUAL SALE OF AN ALBUM YOU NUMB NUTZ. ITS THE STORES THAT ORDER THEM. AND HOW MANY THEY ORDER THAT GETS ADDED. LET ME BREAK IT DOWN FOR YOU TWITS.
Lets say a Target in Chicago orders 3 boxes of Beyonce’s album, thats there mark. then “5th day” (a term used when counters are figuring the numbers) comes and the store is asked to re-order or ship back. Which means the individual store figures out if the product is selling or not, they either orders more, or decide (If they ordered to many) to return the product for an equal refund. ( This is done thru Corp.) Meaning the store has that chance to cash back in and get its money back. If the product is selling, they will order more. THATS WHERE THE NUMBERS ARE ADDED TO THE WHOLE “BEYONCE SOLD THIS MANY RECORDS IN THE FIRST WEEK” THING COMES FROM. When in actuality the albums are still sitting on the shelves. If the store orders more, then yes, its a good thing. Obviously. But the numbers are never dead on. Because they are using the number that was delivered to the store… Not the product leaving the store. (Which is why you can get the same album in different places for different prices) Because the store already bought it. So they can charge what they want. So technically yes the album was sold… Just to a store… not an individual. I hope you can follow this… LOL. I’m not holding my breath though judging by a lot of your comments on here. =)
******** Again, not talking shit about Beyonce and her Stan’s or whatever you all call them******* Just saying that the album is pretty much garbage…. And ya’ll know it! LOL!
Why I know that is because I worked in the Midwest Target Corp. I assisted the manager of Purchases for 3 years of my life. It was an awesome job and I had a blast. ( I even got to put in my own advise from time to time and small stupid things. LOL. it was fun) So all of you sit down and relax. You should be arguing if she is going to win a Grammy for this album… not the sales. (Which she is NOT GOING TO WIN MIGHT I ADD!) LOL. The Grammy ass. frowns upon taking other peoples music and calling it your own. Just saying…. Truth Hurts sometimes, and I’m just keeping it real.
Peace and Love Peeps!

BEyonce forgetrs the lines to her songs=it doesn’tmatter, its her song
Rihanna does=dumb ho, she did that cause she didn’t write it
Beyonce doesn’t thank ANYONE=who cares
Rihanna doesn’t=Who does this BISH think she is,
ITs tacky, point blank.
I think RIhanna is going to have a hard time topping GGGB by the way, which is a solid album that has been on the billboard for like 72 weeks, and has had 8 singles to chart, they said it is the first time since Shania Twain (Beyonce has Never done this). She really raised the bar for herself.
And Bday grew on people because they stopped at nothing, a video for EVERY song and it didn’t outsell ‘no talent’ Rihanna or stay on billboard?
They needto stop the forcefeeding and the gimmicks and rely on the music like Rihanna did, as Umbrella didn’t even catch on that fast in America but they just stuck with it.
She should have released Halo first, they could have kept IIWAB and on the Sasha side I don’t know as I have a problem with most of those ‘base’ songs.
November 19th, 2008 at 10:10 am
Toya…….thank you for the review.
I wonder how many stans upped their blood pressure after you posted this??? LOL
Also, I agree, out of 70 recorded songs………….she picks these.
And another thing, I’d love to ‘hear’ that over the course of three/six months, she SAT and WROTE all the songs for a new album. Meaning, the time she’s writing and the songs will all be connected.
This collection of 70 sound as varied as the tracks on I Am…just all over the place.
I want for this woman to write a THEMED album where ALL THE SONGS ARE COHESIVE and the flow is lovely and fitting and beautiful. THAT ALBUM will be her MASTERPIECE.
But this tripe here? It just SUFFICES…and that’s not enough; not for someone of her talent-caliber.
November 19th, 2008 at 12:16 pm
What can i say…the album is very disappointing. Music has gone down the drain lately, there aren’t too many good albums. Seems as though every1 wants to jump the bandwagon and do somethin totally different. And this whole…expand to a bigger audience thing is BS cuz all they doin is makin a new audience, while losing their previous audience.
November 19th, 2008 at 1:02 pm
Madame, and maaaaany others said everything that i would have said. This album deserved its rating, it was simply underwhelming.
Albums are supposed to flow as a body of work, which ‘i am…sasha fierce’ doesn’t do. The beyonce side is solid; it truly cant be anything more because even the seperate cd isnt sequenced well (the same goes for the sasha side).
Most of the songs you guys named as standouts i do agree with so im not gonna repeat, but in my opinion, video phone is one of the worst songs i’ve heard from beyonce. It contridicts all the ‘growth’ she supposedly underwent, its not even a traditional beyonce song…its pure ghetto trash.
I honestly, i respect what beyonce does and the different routes shes taken with her albums but i cant take her as a serious artist. Its because she makes projects like this (and spanish efforts; which baffles me because she has HUGE crossover appeal already) that i dont understand.
I think she will eventually do something in the likes of DIL, or the equivalent, soon but until then, she (to me) is a ’singles’ artist.
April 4th, 2009 at 8:53 pm
Well, the album was just solid overall. I think it’s a huge dissapointement considering the fact that the album hardly had any R&B ballads or slow jams and I’m a huge fan of Mrs. Knowles R&B slow jams such as ‘Dangerously In Love’ and ‘Me, Myself, & I’. I really wish she would have captured the sound from her ‘Dangerously In Love’ error, which was an hott album. Although, she never dissapoints vocally wise and I did enjoy the ‘I Am’ portion more than the ‘Sasha Fierce’ portion.
Standouts: Halo, Broken-Hearted Girl, Smash Into You, Sweet Dreams, Ego, & Scared Of Lonely
July 15th, 2009 at 5:25 pm
I love this album
I love If I were a Boy, Single Ladies, Radio, Diva, Ave Maria, Halo, Broken-Hearted Girl, Scared of Lonely, Ego, Sweet Dreams,
My favorite is Halo, very dramatic and the rhythm is very very much lovely..
I miss Dangerously in Love but, most people today like sexy songs.
I wish people realize how important “VOICE” is in music.
That’s something Beyoncé has.
