Fox News is reporting that Beyonce stole the hearty-female ballad ‘If I Were A boy’ from BC Jean, an up and coming 21-year-old pop artist. I posted BC’s version two weeks before Beyonce’s version impacted radio last week. But HOW Beyonce got the track is the real issue at hand…
And the adamancy to get the track was pretty strong:
The single missed the Grammy deadline of September 30th, but it was ready to go at least 3 weeks ago. The answer: it was held up by endless legal wrangling since, in the long hallowed tradition of the music business, the young woman who wrote the melody and lyrics for “If I Were A Boy” had no idea Beyonce had even recorded her song until a stranger called with the news. By then, it was too late.
BC Jean is a hot, up-and-coming 21 year old female singer songwriter from San Diego. Those who’ve met her says she’s smart and “gorgeous.” But BC (her initials, legend has it, are for “beautiful child”) got a cold dose of reality this summer when it comes to the record business. According to sources, she and her manager/mother have been strong-armed by Beyonce’s people and others who saw gold in “If I Were A Boy” and didn’t care how they got it.
BC Jean (who co-wrote the song with Tony Gad) shopped it around after BC’s record deal fell through like he did with Fergie’s ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’. Beyonce is known to steal songs and getting bitten in the ass over it too.
In 2003, a $200 million lawsuit was filed against the former Destiny’s Child singer after a 32-year-old producer claimed Beyonce stole ‘Survivor’ from a commercial. In 2005, she was also sued over her song ‘Baby Boy’ when a Minneapolis singer/songwriter by the name of Jennifer Armour accused her of stealing the lyrics and musical hook from her song ‘Got a Little Bit of Love for You’ which she says made its way into Beyoncé’s hands when Armour shopped the track around in March 2003. And last year, Beyonce was sued for copyright infringement by British singer Des’ree stating how Beyonce didn’t get proper approval before altering a cover of her song ‘Kissing You’ into ‘Still in Love (Kissing You)’ or shooting a video for it. As a result, her re-release for B’Day was pulled from the shelves. And let’s not forget the time she appeared on TRL and claimed to have written Emotions when Carlson Daly called her out on it saying it was a Bee Gees cover.
Last year, Ne-yo also called out Beyonce for claiming sole credit for her smash ‘Irreplaceable’ when he actually co-wrote it. Beyonce’s known for snagging songwriting credit even just for changing two words and a full stop period. It doesn’t stop there either. Beyonce is now catching flack for stealing the ‘Single Ladies’ dance from the “MEXICAN BREAKFAST” chicks. Here’s the Mexican Breakfast video. The routine is uncannily very similar to Beyonce’s but they dont do the split Beyonce does. And the plot thickens, because now folks are saying she’s jacked Ciara’s idea of releasing a conceptual album. Today on TRL, Beyonce CONFIRMED that her new album ‘I Am’ album WILL infact be a double CD. One CD will be called ‘I Am Beyonce’ which is said to be more R&B, introverted, and sexy. The other cd will allegedly be honoured after her alter-ego and is titled ‘I Am Sasha’ which is said to feature upbeat dance tracks such as ‘Single Ladies’ and so forth. The alleged tracklisting is after the cut.

Ciara didn’t create the idea of a multiple disc album. Outkast, Christina A, Nelly, and countless other artists have had multiple disc albums. And according to Ciara’s article in Vibe Magazine, she scratched the multiple disc idea.
It’s funny how people say Beyonce stay stealing songs. Writers and producers are the ones who shop these songs around to artists so they should be at fault.
Also, Beyonce is known to make videos inspired by other things and will say so herself.

Everyone knows Beyonce claims credit on everything, regardless if she created it or not. Nothing new here. Whatever. Peeps will buy her albums anyway. I was a fan back in her Diana Ross days (everyone knows Destiny’s Child just like the Supremes were background singers not a real group).
Her music today has not matured as I would have liked. She is great for the teens but as a grown woman her appeal is waning. I don’t hate or stan, I just don’t support financially those I don’t feel worthy of my hard earned money. I am not surprised at this at all. It is no surprise that big name artist strong arm struggling artist who are trying to get into the business for there music. I think it is a shame that something like this happen to people who are trying to make it in life just to get the big names some cred. Beyonce not the first and she is not the last.

For starters, BC Jean will receive credit and royalties for writing If I Were A Boy, as will Beyonce for changing a few of the words. You guys may call that a scandalous move, but it’s a smart move. And to be honest, maybe Beyonce felt like a few of the lyrics be changed to better suit her style. Who knows?
Secondly, CLEARLY Beyonce did not steal the dance moves for her new video Single Ladies. The choreography is Bob Fosse-INSPIRED. Look him up bitches and haters.

I just love how some of y’all pull out these stories but amazingly neva report the outcome of the situation.FYI the case was dismissed and settle out of court by Columbia/sony records since Des’ree is also their artist.Basically it was Sony/Columbia record screw up. The shade is,Beyonce has moved on to big and better things, while Des’ree has gone back to being M.I.A.

First of all as someone else stated ALL of those cases were either thrown out or she won them. Secondly De’sire DID NOT sue Beyonce there was an issue with her getting clearance to sample the song and the LABEL that owns the right to the song(the masters) threated to sue but didn’t once the song was removed from the cd. And by the way lawsuits like this happen to everyone from P. Diddy to Kanye West to even the Lauryn Hill( who damn near wrote,produced and arranged the entire Miseducation save for a few words and got sued). Well i’m just gonna dl the cd anyway so I don’t care. And it’s not about people always wanting to see someone fail—the difference between Elvis stealing songs from black artist and Beyonce just plain stealing-is that then, people didn’t know any better. The writers needed to feed their families. Today, people know better than that because they know what kind of money is involved. How many lawsuits can one person have against them for the same exact thing everytime you release something? I’m not saying one way of the other–but still. It is suspicious and at the end of the day while her fans are being fans and losing their minds over this hefer, people in the industry are starting to take notice and wonder if she is legit.
Her name had to be dropped from the Oscar list because she contributed the least to the song (approx. 5 words-look it up if you don’t believe me) And they could only have 4-5 people be nominated. I could take it back even further to stuff half you ‘fans’ prolly don’t even remember–the first DC cd “Second Nature” she’s credited as writing the song or contributing to it, when Ronald Isley and the other guy said she did not at all. But some of you are probably so young you don’t remember that. Even with ‘The Writings on the Wall’ there was issue over who really wrote what when the group initially broke up.
I’m as big of fan as the next person. But fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. People will do anything to get and keep their name in lights. And over the past 11 years–people have said so much and her and her camps dishonesty–some of it may have been hating but some of it i’m inclined to believe just because you can’t keep saying the same thing over and over for years. I didn’t believe MJ was a child molestor until that 2nd trial. (bad comparison but you still get my point)
So I’m prepared for the insults or whatever. I’m not a hater–I’m a fan but I’m also realistic. This chick ain’t above anyone else and should not be immune to criticism despite what people may think.

Beyonce’s ‘Stolen’ New Hit Record
Last week, I raved and raved about Beyonce’s new single, “If I Were a Boy.” Remember? I thought it was the best thing she’d ever done, and was amazed that she’d even found the material.
Well, guess what? The story behind “If I Were a Boy” is absolutely scandalous. It also explains my question of why this single missed the Grammy deadline of Sept. 30, since it was ready to go at least three weeks ago. The answer: it was held up by endless legal wrangling since, in the long hallowed tradition of the music business, the young woman who wrote the melody and lyrics for “If I Were a Boy” had no idea Beyonce had even recorded her song until a stranger called with the news. By then, it was too late.
BC Jean is a hot, up-and-coming, 21-year-old female singer songwriter from San Diego. Those who’ve met her says she’s smart and “gorgeous.” But BC (her initials, legend has it, are for “beautiful child”) got a cold dose of reality this summer when it comes to the record business. According to sources, she and her manager/mother have been strong-armed by Beyonce’s people and others who saw gold in “If I Were a Boy” and didn’t care how they got it.
You can hear BC Jean’s version of her own song, written with German pop-factory producer Toby Gad, at http://www.bcjean.net. It’s certainly as good as Beyonce’s if not better. It’s no wonder that this young woman is now the center of so much attention.
Altogether, I am told, BC Jean wrote and recorded about a dozen songs with Gad for an album the producer was planning to make of his own. When the deal fell apart, Gad — whose 300 plus credits are all co-written, never solo — took the songs and started marketing them to big name, established artists. Gad’s past “collaborators” include Fergie, on “Big Girls Don’t Cry.”
Besides Beyonce, Gad brought at least one of the songs to Disney for “Hannah Montana” star Miley Cyrus. But Disney wanted the lyrics changed to be age-appropriate. BC Jean refused. For now, Miley and Gad have been rebuffed.
When I wrote about Beyonce’s version of “If I Were a Boy” last week, calls came pouring in from people who knew the real history of this story. BC Jean’s mother/manager, Lori Carlson, told me she couldn’t comment on the situation. But plenty of people knew the saga of Beyonce’s legendary manager/father Mathew Knowles’ aggressive pursuit of the publishing rights to the potential hit record. His goal was to get the rights to the song and to put Beyonce’s name on the writing credits.
The Carlsons, I’m told, recently came to terms with Beyonce, after enduring the kind of record biz terrors that would curl the hair of the guys from “Hit Men.” Now, “If I Were a Boy” is hitting big time. Part of the deal, my sources insist, is that the two singers will duet on BC Jean’s debut album once she gets her own recording deal. Right now, managers, publishers and A&R people from all over the industry are falling over themselves trying to sign BC Jean. They should be. She seems to be the real deal, a potential artist with a big career looming in front of her. It’s a shame that this is the way she had to find out about the record business.
BC Jean’s story is an old one that dates back to Elvis Presley and continues ‘til today. The larger issue, of course, is that performers who don’t write their own music get no royalty when their records are played on the radio. That’s why a Performance Royalty Act is being pushed in Congress right now, and why songwriters should back it. Artists wouldn’t be looking to muscle in on their business if they were paid appropriately. Beyonce simply falls into a category that also includes Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett as well as Sam Moore and Judy Collins, each of whom testified in front of Congress about the matter this year.
And by the way: BC Jean’s story is pretty common. I’d love to hear from all the other songwriters out there who’ve been ripped off just in the last year. The back stories of how records get made, how big stars who don’t write their own music wind up with hit material, are always hell-raisers

The Ciara/Beyonce comparisons are a waste of time because there is no comparison.
Ciara is a dancer, Beyonce is a singer and dancer. The concept albums have been done by several people, if anything both ladies copied. End of story

Its not that beyonce stole If I were a Boy on purpose, she was tricked into it by a deceptive producer. The problem is that she tries to put her name on the writing credits of all the songs by either buying them or by changing one word on the song and then claiming she cowrote it. She did it to Neyo, BC JEan and many others. Thats the real problem. Its not right. Its a LIE, and She needs to be stopped. She cant write, thats not a big deal there arent alot of artists who do write their own songs,but stop trying to lie to people and tell them you do. because thats fraud
