A new feature on the blog will involve reporting on what’s going on in the UK charts. I think it’s a good idea considering that I’ve been told many a time that the blog is too Americanized and doesn’t concentrate enough on the British pool of music and what’s going on over here (being British myself and all). It’s still an R&B post but it’s just emphasising that R&B music is just as big over here as anywhere else. So check out the update.

Last night, Ne-yo came straight in at no 1 with his lead single ‘Closer’ taken from his third forthcoming album ‘Year of The Gentlemen’.

Chris Brown has TWO top 5 hits in the UK singles. He is featured on Jordin Spark’s ‘No Air’ which went in at no 3 and his own single ‘Forever’ went in at no 4. Chris has finally cracked the UK because With You made top 10 recently as well and his re-released album ‘Exclusive: The Forever Edition’ has entered at no 6 in the UK Album’s Chart!

After being no 1 with ‘Take A Bow‘ for two weeks, Rihanna slides back down to no 5, right behind her boyfriend.

Mariah Carey came in at no 30 with ‘Bye Bye’ but I’m sure that’s on downloads alone. It’ll most likely get a higher position next week.

Over the weekend, Michelle Williams performed at a New York club where she sang new single ‘Hello Heartbreak’ and current single ‘We Break The Dawn’, from her forthcoming album ‘Unexpected’ (August 12th). Check out the performances below:

Michelle was throwing down! That was one hell of a sexy performance. The Europop direction is bringing the best out of Michelle. A couple of years ago, nobody would even have dreamt of this moment, considering that Michelle has always been the underdog of Destiny’s Child. Kudos to her.

It’s been a while since it was reported that Akon and Michael Jackson were in the studio working on some brand new material. The first offering from their studio sessions has now surfaced. ‘Hold My Hand’ is the result of what’s been cooked up:

I kind of like it. I’m not crazy about it, but their vocal arrangements blend quite well with the overall song and it’s a catchy tune. I try to avoid Akon’s music like the plaque because his voice makes my head hurt but his cartoon vocals are not that dominant on the song so that’s why it’s tolerable. If there’s one positive thing you can say about Akon is he sure knows how to churn out a catchy pop song and he delivers the hits. The song will supposedly make Akon’s new album, but I know MJ (being the genius that he is) can do MUCH better than this soooo, good thing he’s just the featured artist.

I am absolutely loving the oldskool vibe to the song. Better yet, I am absolutely loving Solange’s new direction as a whole. If her sister were given these type of songs, they’d be huge, but nobody takes the younger sibling seriously especially if the other sibling is a superstar. Still, it’s not all bad for Solange. Her first single I Decided debuted at #44 last week on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart making it her most successful single to date. Congrats. Alicia has also revealed that she plans to retire her music career at 30 because she wants to spend the rest of her life travelling the world: The star often finds herself exasperated by the pressures of fame and in 2006 she took a break from music and travelled to Egypt to recuperate. And the Fallin’ hitmaker insists that she hopes to be able to bow out of the entertainment industry in the next few years, so she can start enjoying her time. She says, “I am working hard now so I have the choice to retire when I want. I would like to travel the world and stay in places instead of having to move on like I do now. I want to experience difference cultures”.

New York radio station Hot 97 has fired morning drive talk show host Tarsha Jones (Miss Jones) and replaced her with radio personality Big Boy and MTV Entertainment reporter Luscious Liz Hernandez. “Big Boy has an unmatched reputation for being entertaining… he also has great relationships with artists,” said Hot 97 programming director Ebro Darden. “Putting Big Boy on Hot 97 in New York City helps keep the high standard of radio happening for us.” According to Darden, Miss Jones will work all of next week which will allow her enough time to bid farewell to her listeners. “Miss Jones is one of the hardest working radio people I have ever seen and she made history with Hot 97,” said Darden. “Miss Jones will have the mic in mornings all of next week so that she is given her proper respect to tell her listeners how much she appreciates them and reminisce about how great this program has been.” Miss Jones was recently named in a federal lawsuit filed by New York lawyer Kevin Hunter. It claimed rival radio personality Wendy Williams and her husband tried to hire a hitman to knock her off. It doesn’t sound like she was fired to me. It sounds like she quit due to the Wendy drama. If she was sacked, they’d probably have taken her off air straight away, like any other job. Whatever the reasons are for her dismissal her feisty yet vibrant personality will surely be missed. I’m pretty certain this isn’t the last we’ll be hearing from the former R&B singer. I know Tina Knowles must be extremely happy at this calling, lol.

Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger celebrated leaving her 20’s on Saturday. In Las Vegas, she had a 30th birthday bash at Lax, which was attended by her fellow Pussycat Dolls, their manager Robin Antin and producer Polow Da Don:

Last night, Beyonce was spotted in the balcony watching her hubby Jay-Z (the headliner) play at Glastonbury Music Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts. The singer looked glam in jeans, heels and a green rain mac as she watched her hubby rock those Somerset crowds:

It was the first time in Glastonbury history that a rapper headlined the festival, much to the disapproval of Glastonbury concert goers and Noel Gallagher. The controversy is all down to angry fans disputing that Glastonbury is betraying its roots as a rock-music festival. This has sparked controversy and much debate over the last couple of weeks. The rapper also stayed upsetting Glastonbury organisers after constantly changing his travel plans ahead of his headline performance. He was due to arrive by helicopter early yesterday for a tour of the 500-acre site in Pilton, Somerset. But reportedly, Beyonce’s entourage wanted to be driven in. A plan to fly Jay-Z to the festival by helicopter was finalised just hours before his 10.45pm performance.

Hilariously, the rapper took a dig at Noel by opening his act with Oasis‘ ‘Wonderwall’:

Despite all the dispute, the crowd seemed to love it. And so did Beyonce, who was seen jumping up and down throughout his other performances.

The ‘Velvet Teddy Bear’ met McCants at a Wal-Mart in Atlanta, where he was signing copies of his CD The Return in 2006. They met in the toy department where he got her phone number. Studdard is starring in the 30th anniversary tour of the musical ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’’ this fall and is scheduled to release a new album by the end of the year. Congrats to him. After being dropped from J Records last year due to poor sales of his last album, it’s uplifting to hear something nice has happened to the big and cuddly teddy bear singer.

Check out Amy Winehouse’s disastrous performance of ‘Rehab’ at last night’s Glastonbury Music Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts which went down last night in Pilton, England. The singer slurred through her lyrics to the point where she sounded like garbling drivel. It doesn’t stop there either. A poor fan suffered the runt of her bizarreness as she strutted along the crowd and elbowed the poor concert goer!:

The trainwreck singer also spat gum into the audience and viciously attacked rapper Kanye West during her performance of ‘Some Unholy War’ where she sang the following line: “At least I’m not opening for a cunt like Kanye” (censored audio is after the cut). West efficiently responded to the attack on his blog where he wrote the following: “Amy Winehouse hates me!!! Now I’ve really made it!!! LOL!!!!”. With the unholy shenanigans that Amy has been carrying on as late, she’s the LAST person to be calling anyone a cunt. Furthermore, I don’t understand why her management continues to let her perform at events when she always ends up making a repeated fool of herself over and over again. Not saying I don’t agree that Kanye is a cunt, but some folks really shouldn’t throw stones from their glass houses.
